Vintage Two Strokes / One for the Honda lovers!!
« on: February 27, 2014, 07:04:45 PM »
Nice, I love seeing the old works Hondas, would be great to see what they could do today if there were no rules on the bikes and the open class was truly open. One of the things I keep wanting to try on a bike would be a Vario (CVT) transmission, can't help but think how cool it would be for your bike to always produce peak power and never be out of the powerband. Could be enough to make the smokers competitive again.

Check that the power valve is installed correctly a friend of mine once bought a cr 250 that did the same thing, plenty of low and mid but went really flat on top and could be out dragged by 125's. He went through almost the whole bike before he realized the power valve was upside down, ran a lot better once that was sorted.

Technical / 02 Honda CR125R BUDFET PERFORMANCE MODS
« on: November 28, 2013, 09:00:47 PM »
Just picked up a 02 CR125R and looking for some budget Performance upgrades.
Currently the Bike has 52 sprocket, fmf shorty with factory head pipe, twin filter,

 Does anyone have any suggestions?
You literally said the same thing as the other guy...

Spam. Can never understand why they post copies of other peoples post's? Surely that can't make them any money?

This should work.

Try putting a rope round the bars and ont the towbar of a car and bump it that way. I've had bikes that wouldn't start on the kick before but when we did that they usually fired and would be fine after that.

If its been parked up for a month or more I'd try that, if its only been a couple of days then I presume something must be up with it.

Technical / 02 CR125 SUSPENSION SET UP FOR OLD FAT GUY
« on: November 26, 2013, 09:14:48 PM »
if you are hitting the trails turn the clickers all the way out, bring a screw driver  and turn them in as needed. good luck s&m.

I used to do that for everything, set it as soft as possible and then keep hardening it one click at a time until you stopped bottoming, that way you get full travel out of your suspension but no jolts from bottoming. Works really well.

General Two Stroke Talk / 2012 KTM 250SX Issues
« on: November 10, 2013, 01:12:56 AM »
Of the four KTM's I have owned I've never once had a problem getting the air filter seated properly. Although I have seen a freshly rebuilt sx150 engine get destroyed within 3 hours of riding because he didn't put the filter on properly, so I guess you could put them on wrong but if you take care when refitting the filter you should be fine.

Actually been wondering how hard it would be to put a KTM rear end on my CR5. It seems like a pain in the ass now having to remove the seat all the time just to change the air filter.

Nothing like as much of a pain in the arse as jerry rigging the KTM rear end to the CR500 would be, put it that way :P You'll get used to the seat thing, and its nothing compared to changing the air filter on a 10-13 YZ450F. That was absolutely ridiculous.

Ye I figured it would be pretty difficult but I doubt I'll be selling it so I'd like to try and get everything perfect on it, besides apart from the subframe I already have most of the parts that would be needed lying around the garage.

I have seen a service honda airbox with a door on the side but that was an 09-12 rear end and to be honest it kinda crap in comparison to the KTM setup.

Thanks guys! I'm getting so impatient to hear this thing run. Can't wait to swing a leg over and let it rip.

Just don't do what a friend of mine has just done with his 2011 sx 150 after a full bottom and top end rebuild. He ran it in as instructed in the manual then went ahead changed the gearbox oil and air filter and went back out again to really give it some, unfortunately he didn't quite fit his new filter properly and a whole load of gritty dust and water got into his freshly rebuilt engine and he is now rebuilding it all over again.

Technical / Bottom end maintenance schedule.
« on: June 29, 2013, 12:06:46 PM »
New top end when I buy the bike and then again between race seasons.
Fix the bottom when it stops working.

The bottom ends can last forever on my yz85 I used to run it with a dirty air filter and never changed the oil in the gearbox the whole time I had it. I had it 3 years it did three top ends and the bottom was still fine when I sold it.

My rm125 had the bottom end replaced just after I got it along with the top end, I then cleaned the filter after every ride and changed the oil after every three rides and the bottom end went again six months later.

Would it be stupid to just make an english wheel like this guy has?

http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=31566

I'm asking because they look pretty simple to make and I'd only need it for this one occasion so its a bit painful forking out hundreds of pounds for it.
