Riding Spots / Re: Kamloops mx amateur track
« on: March 04, 2011, 07:55:59 AM »
I was there for a pro national in '09 (the first year).  The week before for practice it was an easy track, for the national they changed it all up and it was pretty knarly.  They have a fun rythem section, a lot of small tabletops, 1 bigger tabletop, and a huge double on the far straight.  I hear the double is tamed down now because it is packed in better, but for the '09 national it was really sandy, and deep ruts.  I crashed on it from hitting it too hard (it's a short face when I was there so I was on the gas to hard and I wheelied into the face then it nose dived me).  I gotta say that was about the worst case scenario for that jump, I landed head first, bike on top of me and after a 9 months I healed so no worries! haha.  Actually, I hit it probably 15 laps perfect and 1 lap I made a big mistake so if you stay focused it's not a big deal.  I jumped it first lap of practice too, so it's not hard but it can get you if you cross rut or hit it too hard.  When I was their the amatuers raced the pro track (minus one deep sand section).

Besides the big jump, it's a fun, flowing track.  It gets rough too, kinda a hard chop under a thin layer of sand.  And yeah it was really hot, and the air is so dry blowing through the valley so you really got to hydrate well because it drys your mouth out quick.

The KTM literally just started to rattle everything loose after i put about 10 hours on it.  it was great brand new but both of the ones i had went downhill.  and im pretty much stuck with my mechanic, he drives, pays the bills, and has to be there to sign my minor release forms...

if the rules ever change back to cc's I will for sure be back on a 2-stroke because i think real motocross is on a 2-stroke.  but if you can't beat them, join them and that's where i am now.  it's sad that a decent A rider can ride a 450 around lazy but I want to qaulify at pro nationals and you have to ride hard to do that no matter what bike so being lazy isnt an option or my dad will stop taking me.

Shuckhart definitley could qaulify on a 250F.  he qaulified on a 250 2-stroke last year twice (in 2 attempts).  and he also qaulified for a few before on a 250F.  he was really riding that 125 in the first session but he gave up in the 2nd one. there was no chance for an on the bubble privateer to qaulifiy on a 125 at steel city, the hills were steep and 2 of the jumps he couldn't clear (and it wasn't because he didn't try, I watched him case them over and over and it was sketchy!)

It's not that the YZ125 isnt a great bike, but it's no 250f.  bring back 125, 250, and Open and everything would be right. there are plently of hungry pros to field another class and it would bring back a lot of spectators.

First pic is my 2010 KTM SX250.  I qaulified it in the only Canadian National I tried to on it this year but soon after it had so many troubles that I traded it in a on 450. it was trick, really fast and had awesome works Ohlins fork and shock. and sadly i'm still night and day faster on my new 450
this is from the 2-stroke challenge, probably one of my favorite bikes I have ever ridden.. '06 CR250.  on the day of the race tho we messed up and put a 450 gear behind the clutch basket so it ran pretty bad at unadilla, but thats our fault.

Yes they called me back a little bit ago and they are giving me a full refund including a refund on the rush shipping so I guess that's the next best thing to actually getting the right parts.

It's back and running now, we are working on getting the jetting just right so it sounds like RC's old CR250's ripping around Unadilla a few years back  :D .  Ending up using our dremel to smooth off the old stock head the best we could.

Phathead sent us everything out right away, but we got the wrong dome inserts.  My Dad said they wouldn't slide up in the whole way and make a seal (he said they were way off from being the right ones) and I noticed the part number on the head was different from the receipt.  So we will be returning that but shipping was $60 so that was kinda like throwing away money for the wrong part to come..

I signed the petition and I'll put a link on my website too.  I'll put it on MotocrossTracks.com as well when I relaunch it in a few weeks.  It should go back to like it used to be- 125cc, 250cc, and Open.  I raced a CMRC Pro National on a 250 this year in the MX1 class and was ate up so bad on power it was pathetic.  I love 2-strokes but in all honesty a pro 250F and a good running 250 2-stroke are even.  But 150's and 300's would be a good start.

We are heading out!  See you at Unadilla!

Thanks guys, yeah everything else in the top end is new.  We have a brand new cylinder ported out and a new piston kit but never thought the head would be chewed up.  I'll call VHM and Phathead and if nothing else we can get this one machined by someone local.  A while back the tip of my spark plug broke off and that must be what chewed up the piston and head.  Surprising though because it still ran alright.

John, I'm #969 in a big white motorhome so definitley stop by.  I appreciate it, I'll let you know if we need something and I'll be racing all 3 days this weekend.

Hey I was dusting off my old CR250R for the 2-stroke challenge this Saturday and I need to get a new head because it is chewed up pretty bad.  I need to get one in 1-2 days so I will have to get next day shipping but I was wondering what is out there available to hopefully give me some more power or something instead of just getting another stock head.  Thank you!

naa, I'm from Pennsyvania, USA.  I do race a lot in Canada because the tracks are closer to me than traveling all over the country for the AMA series and it is a good place to start out as a pro rider.  Those video clips are from my practice bike which really doesn't run that great but trust me my race bike would make ya'll proud so keep an ear out at the races.

Pictures are up on my blog now at http://blog.linemanmx.com/

Check them out, hopefully I can put this SX 250 up front for the rest of the CMRC Nationals and maybe Southwick/ Steel City...

Here is one from the sand pit with no music.  It seems kinda blurry to me, I'm not sure why but the sounds is great!  It is currently processing...

This is the one from '07, it has no music so it's all the sounds of a YZ125 on the pipe.
