General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Jap 2 Stroke Production?
« on: December 19, 2010, 02:11:45 PM »
They havent added linkage to their two strokes though have they?

It was said that the 2st didn't need the linkage. as it suits its power delivery as is.

And lets face it, how many titles has that non linkage chassis won already ?  Cant be that bad then can it  ;D

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Suzuki scoop say theres no demand for 2ts

If Suzuki do indeed drop their RM's for the more profitable RMZ's I can see them dissapearing as an off road brand here in the UK, we all know how close they are to pulling out of all bikesport here, there's very little happening in the yellow camp as they try to save money as bike sales are down, and they have slashed their franchised dealer network, they obviously see the RMZ as a cash cow for all the parts its going to use through its life expectancey.

Something Honda did a while ago unfortunatly, I was Honda rider through and through, 20 years of racing and a new bike almost every year, I'm still getting the new bikes but they've been KTM's as Honda dont make a bike I want.

Technical / Re: Piston kit
« on: December 05, 2010, 05:12:56 AM »
Ive used Prox for 30 years, until a couple of recent failures costing us big $$$'s, and finding out there not all made in Japan anymore, some made in China or Maylasia or something. Both failures where ring locators coming out after a few hours. Since then I've been useing Mitaka, a budget brand I Know, but I had been told there actualy manufacturerd in the same foundries as a lot of other more expensive brands ! (All I do is make sure I get the Japanese made ones) And we have not had any problems whatsoever, they even come with quality RIK rings too. So for now our bikes will carry on with these, albeit we change topends after a max of 10 hours. A piston kit costs us just £30 thats about $45. Wossner are very cheap here too, as are Namura's. I have not used either of those and dont know anyone who has, Vertex has the market share I'd guess and their excellent but expensive.

   To 125mx,
I had no idea we were garnering international interest. I am flattered.
It's over a year away and anything is possible. Who's to say we can't get some bikes.
If there is a will, there is a way.

Jere

From small acorns great Oaks grow !

I have proven that if an event is offerd riders will come, I worked my butt off over here trying to prove to all the lemmings that the 2st was far from dead, hey presto, we now have three 2st series on offer, next year looks like adding another National Federation (BSMA) with a sole 125cc class.

I have been watching what goes on in the US for sometime, just waiting for the 'catalyst' to spark life into the 2st scene, there ARE plenty of riders still wanting to race their 2st but find it offensive to be put in a class that gives their compeditor twice the capacity. (I dont think that happens in any other motorsport, could be wrong ?) Things are looking good for the humble 2st esspecially with the economic climate !  Strike while the irons hot I say, publicise and promote very well and I'm sure it will be a success.

Our riders have started to ask local clubs / promoters that they want a 2st class or there's nothing at the event for them, and they dont enter, chosing to go practice instead, clubs are now suffering from low entries and (at last) starting to offer something for a 2st racer, soon they will all have a 2st class(s)  (We hope)

John knows how much as gone on here in the UK, and has helped greatly with this site its like free promotion. Thanks John for the help and if we can get that little bit of help with machinery we will get two or more riders out there to your event.

Is there anyway we can secure the use of machines, either renting from dealers, teams or personally loaning them ?

I would like to bring two guys who race 125's, we would need a YZ and a KTM ideally. We could bring our cylinders and stuff like that, but trying to get bikes back and fourth would make it a non-event for us.

Both guys have won National titles and would love to mix it up a touch out in the USA

Could just be a lean pilot circuit, as it warms does it calm down !

So the Husaberg uses a KTM motor, is that what's happening here?

Great news as its proven !

I'd say the 0.40 (squish) you have is to close, you want to aim for the 1mm mark, that is unless you dont run high revs and have some 'good' fuel ;)

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Are 2-Strokes making a comeback
« on: June 24, 2010, 12:58:31 AM »
Here in the UK we have seen the tide turn, its slow but there are more 2st's being ridden, or it just maybe less 4st's out there ?  Our local practice track get's a full mix of riders as its rough and virtually all weather, this year alone the split on any day will be 50/50, 3 years ago it would of been only 20% 2st. Thing is, the oldest 4st seen last week was a 2005 450f, the oldest 2sts thats there everyweek is a 1996 250, yea there are older bikes now and then, but where are all the 1997>2004 4sts ?  There's a growing market here for late 4st rolling chassis for 2st projects, I myself bought a 2008 250f roller for £500 and put a 2004 sx200 motor into it, infact its now got a 2002 125 motor in there.

You are right about kids wanting to race 4sts as their easy, but thats a rule drawn up by faceless profiteerers, give us equal dissplacements and lets see how many cam lovers drop their valves for premix. Our schoolboy series have a few 150f's but major on the sx85, at club level where kids are not blessed with ability you may see a few more 4sts, We are all hoping we take the stance of the rest of Europe and exclude the 150 from competition until a rider is 16yo, keeping kids on a max 125cc

We have 3 different National 2st series to race at, and they get attention from big sponsors the press and spectators, as long as we keep buying 2st equipment, it will be made as its a big (and getting bigger) part of our dirtbike bussiness. To big to let go I'd say !

At the end of the day its riders that make the choice what gets made and sold, Honda made that mistake here, by stopping their 125 and 250 cr's and giving loyal customers no choice, they fully expected guys to just swap to their 4sts, that didn't happen and Honda suffered for sure, that along with all the problems they've been having, have IMO dropped the big red company well down the list

PREMIX IS THE FUTURE

....others from forming a national type racing series stirctly for the 2 stroke set. Yeah yeah I know. They are called the amatures. ;D

What stops this from happening. The AMA? The manufactures?

Simple question with a simple answer, NOTHING

That #38 maico smoked the 500 class, Alex Rach is a pro rider though and looked to be enjoying himself to, he even hole shot 2 or 3 out of the 5 moto's beating some very well prepped hybrid's, not just him mixing it though, there were around 6 older bikes in the top 15  8)

It dont matter what it is as long as it needs premix, race it

Hi guys, just returned from a great weekends racing at the 2st Nationals from Hawkstone park here in the UK, 2 days of action from the 125, 250 and 500cc classes, just to hear the good old 2st's blasting up the famous hill was brilliant. Here's a link to some pics we took, not proffessional but thought some may like a look

 http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/125mx.com/2stNationalsRound2#

Also, Alex Rach smoked the 500 class, no not on a hybrid but a 490 maico  8)

Considerable diffeence in gasket thickness, the thicker one it originally.
Although KTM offer one at .25mm thickness which is thinner again.
It would seem higher compression can be run, but jetting chnbes are required.

KTM offer a wide choice of gaskets right down to 0.06mm allowing us to jack the cylinder around to suit applications, TM Racing also offer a good choice of sizes, must be a Euro thing !
