Title: RM 250 Fork question
Post by: 2stroke250 on May 25, 2010, 04:26:35 PM
Hey guys I have a question. This is my 96 RM 250. I have a seal leak on the right side of the fork. I know that stock 96 forks were inverted from what I have, but I need to replace the seals. I'm not totally sure what kind of forks I have on there. I took the plastic off so you guys could have a better view. I have updated plastics and engine in there, so I swear it's not a 99 or 00 bike. I just need to know what year forks I have if not aftermarket. Thanks

Also, what weight fork oil should I use? I just trail ride. Are those fork relief valves worth getting too?

They're Kayaba forks and I'd say from a 2003 model, actually I'd say the whole front end is going by the brakes.
5w oil. I think the fork bleeders are a good idea, saves needing a screwdriver.

Thanks Graham472. I only found a couple of numbers on the forks. At the bottom on the inside of the fork there is a 271-P on one side, and a 271-L on the other. I looked on the inside of the white plastic fork cover which was designed for 01,02,03,04 models. RedfoxCR, I think it is a leak because I only get an oily residue buildup on one side.
