Title: Freaky sunday
Post by: TMKIWI on July 20, 2013, 09:48:06 AM
I was sitting on my back porch step at 5.00pm tonight after finishing work and thought I must be having a dizzy spell as everything seemed to be wobbling.
I noticed all the trees in the back yard and neighours place were swaying but their was no wind at all.
I then realised it was an earthquake and everything was swaying in slow motion like the swell on the ocean.
It lasted for a good 30 seconds.
There was no jolt or sudden movement just a gentle sway.
Jumped on the net and found out there was a quake of 6.5 over 350km away down the coast.
Doesn't seem to be much damage at this stage.
Best I have felt in a while. Joys of living in "The shaky Isles"

I was just slurping my morning brew and saw that on the news. They said there was some structural damage in Wellington?
That would a be a little freaky,I would have just figured I needed another beer or something. :)

As if NZ hadn't had enough earthquakes to last a lifetime. Must have been a good adrenaline rush there, hope everyone is ok in wellington.

Na man.
We kiwis are quite good at not allowing our beer to get shakin. ;D

They are still investigating the damage but it looks like not much at this stage which is suprising considering how long it lasted.

No one dead is what counts, buildings can be replaced.

I remember being in my shop once (two story cement block building) and watching the top of the wall sway back and forth about a 1/3 of a meter (12 inches or so) during an earth quake. :-X
