Title: If you were going land speed racing...
Post by: beaner on April 23, 2013, 03:23:18 AM
What would you do to make a modern 2 stroke 125 last through a  mile (1.6 km) of wide open riding?

I've set some automotive land speed records. I have a built Honda 125 4 stroke to go after those records, probably this season. I was looking at the 125 2 stroke modified records, and they're very low. Since my 04 RM 125 is surplus (and fresh) right now, I was wondering what you would do to try and make it last through a half dozen mile passes?

Look to the road racers - GP bikes have been doing this stuff for years.

this thing is rs125 based.

higher ratio's of premix, 50-55 degree C thermostat, EGT guage and coolant temp guage to monitor the bike during the run, jetting dialled in perfectly.

No rules, other than safety rules.

Hmm maybe a FMF snarly pipe and a shorty silencer, some head mods and port work?

Neither of those things are going to help it last for a wide open, high RPM mile run. I think the SST would be a far better choice, anyway.

I think RiffRaff has the right idea. If you had some kind of "on the fly" adjustable main jet enrichment circuit you could fatten things up if she didn't sound happy towards the end of a run.

By the time you thought it didn't sound any good the piston would be deto-ed to pieces.

Not so. I raced Swedish Huskies for years and wide open on a cold morning fire road you didn't dare take your finger off the choke lever.
