Post by: vetman on January 14, 2013, 02:09:41 AM: Hi there has anyone out there used one of erics 265 kits,i know he is the guru when it comes to our great two smokers more wondering if there is a noticable power increase and longgevity of the kit any help would be great cheers

unless your cylinder is damaged you would be much better off spending your money on a professionally made cone pipe... both will cost roughly the same.

Then at some point in the future if you've got a damaged bore, the 265's are a great piece of kit

This. The 15ccs isn't what makes people big bore their 250s, its the powerband that is bred from the change in capacity.

MXA 270ed their 08 YZ250 and they reckon it was the ducks nuts in terms of a powerband. Lets face it, a YZ250 powerband is almost fourstroke like at the best of times but apparently it was really awesome.

Best mods you can do is get the head machined to improve the squish band and remove the air boot and match it to the manifold. ( the fitment is not so good from factory).
That will make the powerband smoother.
If then you still think the hit is too big fit a JRF Torque controller.

What year is your bike ?

Over bores reduce the exhaust port duration something you can do to any cylinder by machining off the base.

If its a TM250, then I wouldnt touch it.

Id be setting up the head as stated and the torque controller

Post by: vetman on January 15, 2013, 07:36:19 PM: had been looking into a stage 1 port on the barrel the crankcases are polished factory anyway the squish was the next step, was going to leave all alone as i was going to get a 013 300mx but finances have stopped that at the mo so ill give my 011 a tickle up and wait a year have worked on the set up and sus and now a full tm convert but still finding im getting eaten up a little by 450s which unortunately is just down to horsepower so in my eyes any little bit helps

Best thing you can do is what I said above.
Even though they have good engine's , there is a little more available if you set the squish and fix the airboot issue.
You have a good reliable bike.

Get a die grinder and machine out the manifold to match the carb.
Result is better airflow.

Sorry, I meant manifold not airboot.
