Title: Base Gasket Sealant
Post by: 2005yz250 on November 25, 2012, 03:17:37 AM
Most kids my age want fancy clothes or money for Christmas.  I however have reason to believe santa is bringing me a top end rebuild kit from Weisco in the near future.  The bike is a 2005 yz250(as if my name didn?t give it away). I am getting a slight spooge escaping on the clutch side of the base gasket.  I was curious what type of sealant to use when I button everything back up to avoid future leaks.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Keep on smokin' everyone. Braaaaaaap.

None, you shouldn't need any sealant on your base gasket. Just a new gasket every time you take the barrel off.

the only thing you should be putting on your base gasket is either 1) nothing if you want to listen to the maintenence manual or 2) a suitable oil or grease if your smart and dont want to spend a half hour cleaning old gaskets off the metal surfaces each time you rebuild you engine.

in the case of your bike using a metal base gasket you would go with option 1
