Title: Is this possible?
Post by: Twostrokepower!!! on August 06, 2012, 03:43:01 AM
I have a 96 cr125r. I live in ny, if i wanted to make it road legal at some point would it even be possible? What would i need as far as title and insurance and things like that? Besides the obvious lights and plates what else would i need?
Any one with experience in this? Thanks

Someone on this forum I believe talked me through how to get my 250 road legal, it involved registry in another state and all kinds of stuff, but I do think it is possible. I have seen a road legal KX250 2T in America, so I know it is possible. You can buy an enduro kit for you bike and it should come with a head light, break lights, and battery maybe. You can find mirrors for bicycles anywhere and a speedometer isn't to difficult to come by.

You can/could register bikes under 300cc in VT. I had my KDX plated that way. I am not sure on NY laws, in Pa I was told by my notary all I needed was something in writing that VT does not title bikes under 300cc (they don't) and my Pa insurance and drivers license and he could have gotten me a Pa title and registration for about $150. I sold it before I did though.

I hear VT is cracking down and refusing some MX bikes but you would get your money back if they refuse you.

My brother registers his all his bikes now. He even has a YZ 125 that he took to Daytona this year. He registers them in Maine. You can do it online (with a broker or something). The process is simple and fairly cheap. Once you have it registered for 1 year, you can transfer it to you state (My brother is in Florida).

http://staabagency.com/

If your bike is less that 300cc, you get a registration (no title) and tag. After a year, you can register it in your own state or renew in Maine online.
