Hey guys
What do you think is the best helmet to use for motorcycle racing and where can I possibly purchase them?
-
The best helmet is 1 that fits your haed properly.
Spend what your able to and make sure it fits.
-
Look for Snell approval.
-
Only if it's the latest Snell approval. Before the latest ones, DOT or ECE is the better choice. Snell changed their testing so their approval is now closer to DOT than it was before.
FYI, race organizers and sanctioning bodies require Snell approved helmets solely for insurance purposes, and NOT because they are a better helmet.

Thanks for the replies. But I heard that Arai and Bell are good brands. What do you think so?
-
I have an Arai. I like it, it has saved my head a few times I'm sure. Its time to replace my helmet, and I will probably replace it with another Arai.
-
cnrcpla,
really? Good to hear that. Maybe, I'll have to try it. By the way, do you know any stores that offers such kind of brand? I found http://www.jafrum.com/Motorcycle-Helmets in the web but I'm not sure if they have good helmets. I found an Arai brand in that store but I do not have any experience dealing with them.
-
I'm actually not sure where to find them... My current Arai came with one of my bikes, but if you find out where, let me know. I haven't checked my local motorsports store yet, but next time I'm in there I will. Good luck with getting one soon

as per your other thread

Go to your local dealer/store and try them on. Get the one that fits your head.
Not all helmets fit the same.
Also, I try to buy from local dealer as much as possible. They give me a discount. If you ask nicely, a local store will probably match what an online store is selling for to get your business, if not undercut them - Repeat business is a big incentive for them to look after you.
Support your local store and they will support you.

msmola2002,
Thanks bud. But I went to the local store here last week and they did not have the kind of helmet that I need.
-
A good helmet will be one that fits on your head nicely.

I try to do both DOT and or Snell approved when it comes to helmets. A nice helmet is going to run in $150-$400 range. I would try to buy it from a local shop versus buying it online, as Wiki stated, buy the helmet that fits correctly.
