While doing some walking in the woods, I figured I had some open enough land to make a track. I cut a few trees and cleared some brush and cut back some branches, and its taking shape. It isn't a huge multi-acre track, but more like a 1 acre 2nd maybe 3rd gear practice track. My only issue is, I don't want to pay for fill or anything to fill in some ruts and cover tree stumps and make jumps. I do have acess to a LOT of loam (3 or more year old horse crap). My question is, will the loam hold up to the form of jumps and berms, or will it all wash out after a rain storm? Its free, so if I can pull of making a motocross track with nothing but time and work to pay, that would be awesome.

Do you want to make a natural terrain track or one that is supercross style?
Ford has a lot of experience with horse cr*p and should be able to give you a few pointers.

I'm looking to get a few jumps up, no natural terrain, I'm aiming to cover the rocks and tree stumps, but nothing supercross like

If its free get it and make that track, ride it and see what happens, only way to tell

PLz call diggers hotline before digging with the backhoe, would hate to see ya stick a tooth in a gas main-big boom. When I was a kid I rode on cow manure piles, it,s doesn,t hold up,gets rutted easily. It might be better if you mix the crap with dirt. What kind of dirt do ya have ? If it,s sand just make a track with lots turns, McGrath used a track like that with no jumps on it.

I have a lot of sand, so thats possible. Also, there are no main gas lines out where I'm making a track. I have checked with the loggers around here and no one on my road even has gas. Also, I'm not digging I have already made the track itself, I just need to get the dirt or what ever and make some jumps.

Ok, I am planning on getting the dirt this week, but I have to co-ordinate three different people just to get the dirt, my friend who is giving it to me, my boss who is providing the tractor, and my nieghbor who is providing the dump truck. I have two people ready today, but my nieghbor was no where to be found. Maybe tomorrow I would really like to get it done so I don't have to drive over an hour to the nearest track that doesn't require a membership to ride on.

Ok so a little update, I ran into some road blocks over the summer with work and school so I had to abandon my hope for a little while. But with work closed for renovations I have some time. I keep running into road blocks with getting the damn dirt. I am HOPING this Saturday will work for me, its go for all the people except the tractor owner so far, so I will see what happens. I had time to cut a few more tree's making it wider and bigger, I would say about a third of the size of Central Village
I can't wait to finish it, I will get some pics up when I can.

Look for some free dirt, most of the time, construction sites will give you free dirt, as long as you have something to pick it up with. also try looking on craigslist or something for free dirt. Try and get some sand too to get some sand berms to rail. Always fun

If the design phase isn't finished yet, I'd recommend adding the following:
1. At least three machine-gen nests, well-stocked with German WWII soldiers, and MG42's.
2. The Hole.
3. Razor wire at knee-height, so you and your bike can crawl underneath it. Adds an additional challenge to the course, especially if you have live fire going on overhead when you're doing it.
4. Lemonade stand. Have an annoying 8-year-old running it, and they don't have change for a $50.
5. An official 'Flying Wallenda' rope bridge, preferably installed over a gaping, 1000-ft chasm. Running water optional. Speed will be the key for traversing this level-10-difficulty water trap.

I already have the free dirt, thanks anyways man I just have to get it to my house And I will be sure to add that level 10 water trap, you know just cause I will find that on your average MX track

I'd highly recommend the K.I.S.S. philosophy when designing the track. Keep it simple and easy so everyone in the neighbourhood can have fun after school.
The only Germans I'd let near that track would be some vintage 250 Maicos, some twin shock racing would be a blast!

Oh yeah, I only have 1 jump (contemplating putting up 2) and whoops section. Simple as can be, but it will make a good practice track for me. I'm hoping that I can hit high B class low A by the end of next season before college.

Finally got my dirt It's not quite as much as I had wanted, but I can make it work. I will start spreading it tomorrow, hopefully I will be done in a few weeks and will post up some pictures and try to get a video on.

Sorry for the over post, but I have to get this out there: DO NOT EVER USE LOOM FOR A MOTOCROSS TRACK. EVER! It doesn't compress enough to make jumps or berms... I made a jump today with a ten foot gap, not even big, and I hit it and the front tire sank down into the take off ramp and went right through (literally, I have tire marks to prove it) the receiving ramp... That was after it was compacted by weight of machines... Total busted idea, had fun hitting the jump and making it and stuff, but I think I'm going to stick with all ready made tracks. Oh well, maybe I can have a nice front lawn this year

just make a tight twisty track without jumps theyr still fun
