Too bad at the bottom he doesn't say. Or go out and buy a 250 2 stroke and detune it to run as slow as the 250F, but 5 times as long.   :P

Or he loves them because he's probably got plenty of work now thanks to sh***y four strokes.. ;)

Ive never blown one up either and Ive had atleast a half a dozen of them for full race seasons. I agree they probably blow up more than 2 strokes but they are far from the ticking time bombs people make them out to be. They are like anything else, if you dont maintain it... itll break.

I know Eric knows his engines. Im sure he loves all those broken motors coming to his shop, 4 strokes sound like good job security for him.

I have a 4 stroke that I enjoy riding...  Its a Yamaha Vstar 1100, it doesn't handle the woops very well, but it sure is nice for cruising with the better half..   :D

A fast local kid blew up a 10' kx250f a few weeks ago. It threw the rod through the case and hit the motor mount causing the frame rails to bend. Thats probably the worst one Ive herd of.

WOW...   :o  :o  :o  That sucks, the engine is toast, and so is the frame...  Now its an $7,500 boat anchor...  ouch

Just like most of the 4 stroke sided guys, no one that has owned a 250F usually posts. It's always a 450F guy. We ALL agree the 450F's are pretty reliable. Eric is specifying 250F's, because those are the time bombs.

Im not sure who that is directed towards. Ive had several 250f's, would you like some pics?

Im not saying they dont blow, they do.

I bought a RMZ-250 the first year they came out.  I raced it in 04 in Alaska and did alot of trials too, then I went to Iraq and my buddy rode it for 05 in Hawaii, I rode it for half of 06 in Hawaii until I bought my CRf-450.  I changed the oil frequently and rode the heck out of it.  I sucked in some water once too in a river incident in Alaska and rode it 10 miles popping and sputtering back to the truck.  It never blew, I never checked a valve, I didn't even know what those were.  It never blew up.  My 450 I raced from 06 until 09 when I went back to a 2T, and same thing minus the water.  I rode it hard and never had an issue.  I don't think the problem is that 4T's blow up more, the problem is when they do go it costs alot.  All I ever did was change the oil at the proper intervals and kept the air filter clean.  You are not going to get a 125 top end to last a season if you ride it at peak rpm all the time and hold it too long at maximum rpm, but it will be easier and a heck of alot cheaper to fix.

I may have mentioned it on the site, but I used to ride with a guy that dual sported his YZ426 -- supermoto, and dirt.   I was on at a track day with him when his motor popped while supermoto'ing it.  We counted five holes in the motor -- I've never seen anything like that.  Bottom, top, front and back.  This had to have been about 10 years back..
