I once had an opportunity to ride a 94 WR440 Maico in the Little Naches forestry area west of Yakima and it was a very nice ride with that classic "Maico" feel.I actually wanted to buy a 440 that year but when they sold out I settled for a 500.The guy also has an 84 SC500 for sale ;D

This one looks like a beauty and a fantastic price at that!
Damn, it looks as good as my 96 model which I was happy to pay $5500 Aus for.

Sachs, I can't see any listing for the 84 model, can you post a link?

Looks like the 84 SC500 sold before the auction was completed.

What could be better than an open class Suzuki? Pretty clean.

Whoever got this got a nice deal.
I was very tempted to pick it up and put in what I thought were very lowish bids, in the end only missing out by $100 or so.

Ya, I considered getting this bike and if I deicded on it I would have gotten it.  My only reason for not getting it is no space, but I don't have a blue maico, would have been nice for the collection.

Opferman, can you give me any idea as to the changes from one "modern" Maico to the next?

Visually they seem to have had a few clear changes from the first in 85, then again in the early 87, then not really till about 92 then again in 94.  After that they seemed to be updated visually for the last time, with the 97 looking very similar to the bike Kostler still sells, obviously USD's were added in 2001 and no doubt a lot of other minor mechanical details.

Though the blue 94-96 Maico's seem rare (I am lucky enough to have one), I think the blue bikes from 87 to 93 in seem to be the hardest to come by. I am yet to see anyone who owns one, (online or otherwise) and have never seen one for sale.

86's although by no means common seem to be around a little more.

I know where the 1989 VIN #1 is, the one that is on all the posters the exact bike, and it's for $900.  However, it's in pieces and needs center cases, they're busted.

You can check this article out:

One thing I missed tho is that the shifting cam mechanism also changed in the 1990s.  The article is just the changes as far as the engine is concerned.
