Title: Project RM144
Post by: PitRacer on February 03, 2011, 04:17:07 PM
Started with a very nice 2006 RM125, put on an all blue 2007 seat and found NOS Bill's Pipe and Silencer...

Recently completely tore down, motor sent out for 144cc topend and porting.

Have new triple clamps, a bunch of carbon fiber, gold rims, you get the idea.  I'll post pics when it's done in a couple weeks....

I have a bunch of old 80's RMs too and I ALMOST painted the frame and motor on this bike Suzuki blue to make a modern retro look....but decided to hold off for now.  It's going to get the "trick" but stock look....

Also found that RM250s had titanium footpegs that switch right onto the RM125.  Found a set on Ebay for $18....

In Holland, (former 125 world champion) Pedro Tragter sells the RM144 ready and setup for you.
But it is far more satisfying if you do it yourself!  ;)
When i get a bigger garage and some tools i will start a similar project.
You're doing a good job on your bikes. Can only give you all my respect and good luck in the
events you enter with them! They look great and I bet they go just as fast as they look!  :)

RM144 is done.

Still same basic look...little bit snazzed up.  I like the stock blue/yellow look and as mentioned in an above post I may go full-retro on this bike in the future!

Anyway, here it is.  Heading down south to ride it for the first time this weekend at Monster Mountain.  12 hour drive to ride the tiddler!  Been on a crash diet to fit back in my gear, haha!

Sounds great!

They don't make them anymore for the RM125.  I found this set as discontinued NOS on Ebay.

Bill's pipes are fantastic. I use to run Bills on my 2001 CR 125. I have had no luck finding one for my 2000 CR 250. I did find the Bill's Pipe dealer on Ebay, but he couldn't find one for me.  :(

Have you ridden it yet? I have to agree with everyone else that that is one sweet bike. Did Eric Goor do the motor work?

Yes Eric Gorr did the topend.  I ground the cases myself (actually a friend with a machine shop did while I stood there, lol).

We took a trip south a week ago to Monster Mountain in Alabama.  The bike RIPS!  I'm honestly not very good on a 125 anymore, going to need some practice.  And I'm not exactly the target weight either....but it was a blast.

Two strokes are back!  The place was packed with them on the 4 days we were there.  In our group alone we brought 3 RM125's and 3 YZ125's!

I have some friends that rode there, they all say it,s awesome. Since it,s a Mark Barnette the 125 specialist track, is it a 125 track-a good flowing layout ?  I,m  170-175 lbs. you just have to work on coming into corners faster, smooth thru the corner and exit, so you can do the jumps right out of corners. Travis Preston was 190 lbs. and he beat Bubba in the 125 supercross championship.
