Title: What does your home track look like?
Post by: Hondacrrider on January 25, 2011, 09:14:07 PM
I was kind of wondering what your guys' tracks look like? My track is known for great spectator visibility, large jumps, a great whoop section, and an awesome hill climb. Unfortunately our track is being moved because the soil has a lot of clay in it, is really hard packed, is ridiculously far out of town. Our new track should be nice though, nice thick loamy soil, I would know because I used to trail ride in the area for the new track. Anyways the new track is hoped to attract a national, which would be awesome. Anyways back on topic, this is what my track looks like, and no, this is not me riding.

Tight woods single track, and some double track as well....  yes I'm not an MX'er anymore, I prefer dodging the trees then the big jumps...  maybe itâ??s an age thing...  I used to race some MX back in the day (30 years ago), but now I prefer tight single track.   8)

This is kind of hometrack, at least it's closest. Only 10 mins from where I live. Thing is, I hate that track so haven't ridden here in two years ...

However, this is what i think as my real hometrack. Bit further, 45 mins. But not so booooring to ride as the closest one.

Motocross Harri Kullas #151 training 2010 at Hyvinkää Finland (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAOw-k32lB0#ws)

Both tracks are open five days a week and have sprinkles waterering systems. I'm kind of spoiled having nine tracks to choose in one hours radius :)

#151 (black Yamaha) has pre-booked to next summers 125 series, we'll see if he have actually time to participate....

I've got two of your standard pro style tracks about 1/2 hour away that are home to the atlantic series but technically,I guess my home track would be my buddies practice track. It's a work in progress as always and has been about ten years in the making-cutting,pulling stumps, dozer, excavator, drainage etc,but-it's been well worth it.We ride whenever we want, stop whenever we want, and change it around however we want. It's about 1 km in length and has your usual array of jumps, step up/down, rhythm etc but it's built with tight corners and only one straight with 2 jumps on that so you're always doing something with no time to rest-just the way we like it.Anyone with a little land,it's well worth the effort and way better than waiting all day for two short motos.
Anyway,a couple pics-all me.The KTM shot is when the track went in one direction, the Berg and YZ are when it went in other-exact same spot in all three though. The interesting thing about the YZ shot is that I don't remember it as a few seconds later I was unconcious and gasping and wheezing(so I'm told)and not long from an ambulance ride.Worst of all,the EMT's cut off my old, comfy MSR's off-bah.Oh well, good times..... ::) :D

That track looks a lot like my buddy's track in New Hampshire....  Lots of trees to bounce off if you get out of control!!

Yeah for sure. You need to have it in the back of your mind but sh!t still happens.A couple years ago my buddy that owns it decided to jump the rhythm and never quite made it-off in the woods, flew off the bike and his helmet wedged between two trees and his body kept going.Snapped his neck in five places before the helmet yanked out. He's lucky the piece of his C1 moved out instead of in.He was in a halo for quite some time and it took him a awhile to get back up to speed.Eventually we cut the trees down where the paint from his helmet was.It gave me the heebie-jeebies whenever I looked at them.

I have had 2 run ins with trees. Once going way too fast in sandy whoops at a state park in MA I swapped back and forth so hard that when I finally got pitched into the scrub pines I was relieved at how soft they were. Another time at Croom in FL I did a little harmless jump in the woods and about hit a small tree about 6' in the air. Think slow motion, tree bends, acts like a spring, and slams me backwards into the ground cartoon style. Anyway, This is a good thread CRrider. I gotta dig up some vidio's.

I arrived at work in a cornfield one am on a stinking hot day with no breeze-halfway between still drunk and hungover.
You want a cure for a hangover-there it is-quickly-though you think you're going to die for a while.
That's also where I learned to eat raw corn(tastes like new peas)Once I started coming out of it,I was dry as a freakin' bone.
Ah youth, those were the days.... :)

No, I rarely have my camera with me while on a flight! I will try to take some pictures this spring and summer.
