I need feedback on the idea of trying to get a 144cc race added to the 2-stroke World Championships for 2011. Do ya'll think there would be enough interest in it? Let me know what you think?

Can we say full gate? They established a 125cc championship in Europe and the series so far is a success.. Overcrowded of riders.. Thing about it..a bunch of 144 fully pinned in the first corner!!!!!!!!!
-
I think you should run 100cc.up to144cc. as one class. I was at Loretta's practicing on my 250 when a kid blew by me on a 80. I later learned it was Ricky Charmicheal. So a fast person will kick your ass regardless of the displacement.

Gas Gas makes a 144cc?? WTH!!!

Look at the smile on that face ;D

My computer wouldn't pull up the pic. Is that a Gas Gas 144? I agree that it should be 100cc to 144cc.

It's a youtube video of a GasGas144 riding. It threw some nice roost too!

What year is it? Are they making a 2010 or 2011 model? I'll have to pull it up when I get home from work.

I think having displacement spreads from 100cc to 150cc will result in a similar issue that we have today... unequal competition. In some cases the larger displacement would be better and in some the smaller would be better. All that stuff does is make it hard for the lower income racer to compete and win. Those with enough cash could own multiple machines that matched the track.
In the old days there were almost three classes that could fit that displacement range.
As for Gas Gas, yes they are around... and current.

Would it be possible to have a petition up on the website so the guests and members of the website can sign it? Also a print version so we can bring it to our local tracks?

I'll be glad to add that to the site.
Anyone feel like taking a stab at writing a draft of what it should say?
-
Should we go for one race and then see the response? I am guessing that there will be an overwhelming response if we spread the word.
Maybe it could say something like:
PETITION FOR 144CC RACE INCLUSION IN THE 2011 MTA TWO STROKE WORLD CHAMPIOSHIPS
Name email
What do yo think?

What is wrong with that? :P
-
We need to do it. Who should we submit it to?
-
I thought that you were speaking of a petition to create a two-stroke class for the Nationals.
For a one off race like this you will not need to do a petition. Just get a bunch of folks to agree to racing it and you should be set.
What would really help is having "roving" reporters for any event that has two-stroke racing involved. It's a bit too difficult for me to attend every race, take photos and write something about it. Anyone interested in doing this? It only has to be something simple.
-
Oh, heck yeah! I definitely agree that it is needed for the nats. You know it was Jeff Ward that voted against the 144s being included in the 250F class. (Here's the link: http://www.dirtrider.net/forums3/text/topic/122780-1.html (http://www.dirtrider.net/forums3/text/topic/122780-1.html)). His argument was that it was a band-aid fix for the problem, which he said that it should be 250cc regardless of engine. I wonder if the AMA would have gone for it if Wardy hadn't of voted against it?
At any rate, I can work on something to write up, uless 2smoker also has an idea.

I suggested this earlier in the other 144 thread and it got promptly ignored, LOL.

That Gas Gas 144 was a sweet looking bike & I did see a smile on the riders face but I wish he would have ran the ol'girl like I'm sure it needed to be ran!
-
I think a petition is a good idea and I would be willing to help you on it Coop. I am going to try and get in touch with Jeff Ward and see what his AMA role is and possibly how to present it. I think that we may have to see what happened the first time, since it sounds like the AMA was going to do it, but Jeff Ward voted it down. Does anyone know how to go contact him? If we can't contact him or gain a little research into the first AMA decision, then I think we should go ahead with a petition. I just don't want to see a whole lot of work get wasted.
-
Yeah definitely should look at taking the petition thing further and try and create a change a national race level

You could try Facebook... Jeff Ward is one of my friends there, although I've never attempted to contact him...

Good Idea, I try it today and let ya'll know.

Here is the link to the article (thread) commenting on the vote of not allowing the 144cc in the 250F class, along with Wardy's reply:

Here is Jeff Ward's reply on page 2:
I guess I should have stayed longer, if it passed with ONE vote. but couldn't stay. that 144 will NOT be competitive with a 250F, unless you have a rider that can stay wide open on the pipe all the time. They should do away with the handicapping and let them run normal CC limits as in the past. 250-250. 2 strokes are dead? LOL see how long that would last if the handi-capping stops.
any way, in committee i voted against the 144, simply because it's a bandaide and not a fix to the problem.
at least the schoolboy or the riders coming off 80's won't be "forced" to ride a 250.
wardy
I have tried to sign up to Wardy's facebook page and am still working on it.

Yeah John,s right 100 to 150cc was 3 different classes years ago. If you want a 144 class, make sure you have after market 144cc mod. engines included. Then the engine builders will go nuts, with diffferent theries. I have a 04 cr125 2mm stroker crank, 2 mm overbore, carb borred to 40mm. Before the motor was decked,ported,40mm carb, icat, pc pipe,v force, I only rode the 144 a little bit, long story, but it,s way faster than the 37-38 hp motor. A mod 125 doesn,t stand a chance, around 20-21 lbs. of torque in a 144 mod. motor, touch the cluth and instant 20-21 lbs. of torque, if there,s traction 250f,s are kids play. hehe
-
When you say stroker crank, does that mean that the rod is longer? (I realize this may bleed over to technical questions so I will continue this question over there)
-
yes and no, it means longer stroke of the rod, so it can be multiple things.
here is an example of a stroker .

The crank makes a LARGER circular motion. The rod either has to be shorter, or the piston pin placement needs to be lower in the piston (custom piston) or a combination of both.
-
So the one on the left is the stroker? If a YZ (or CR RM KX, etc) is stroked and bored then it would be equal to the 150SX?
-
edit, dumb post by me.
