Title: OK, all set for a great race tomorrow at Red Bud! GO Project 250!!!
Post by: Suzuki TS250/185 on July 02, 2010, 07:58:31 PM
Hello Everyone,

Alright! Here I am at the Holiday Inn Express in South Bend, Indiana! The track's just about 15 miles up the road, and the weather is supposed to be absolutely perfect!

If I can get into the pits tomorrow without it costing an arm and a leg, I'll try to get some video of the Project 250 scene straight from the pits to share. If I don't go into the pits tomorrow, I'll still try to get all the footage I can get of Mike and the best bike on the track, bar none!

If there are any other "Project 250/www.TwoStrokeMotocross.com" fans going to the race tomorrow, reply to this email and let me know!

Thanks,

Jim

Are we going to be able to watch the whole thing somewhere after the fact?  I've heard they'll have it on TV and such but I'm going camping for the 4th of July Weekend so I won't be able to log into the world until Monday.  I really want to see this thing!

Hey Jetz,

I would say your best bet is to set up a recording of the race to get the 2nd Moto, which is the one they usually set up for Television. The first moto MAY be available for viewing on www.AlliSports.com (http://www.AlliSports.com) after the fact. I know we're supposed to be able to view all the 1st Motos there as a live stream, but I don't know whether or not that site maintains an archive of the races for later viewing.

I've been able to catch many of Cedric's races after the fact on the YouthStream.com site, which seems to be the European equivelant of AlliSports.

Thanks,

Jim

apparently he didnt qualify. 2:39 was his practice time

Dungey ran a 2:16.7 just to give everyone an idea.

ya it looks like the cutoff was 2:27, it's alright that was the first one I'm sure he'll qualify for atleast one. What weird to me is it looks like he only got one practice?

Sorry about the lack of updates... I have a horrible connection here! It took 5 minutes to load the reply box and it's not all done yet!

We had a weird issue with the bike in the first practice, a rock to the outer clutch cover! Mike did not even get one lap of practice!!! To say he was upset would be an understatement.

Using parts from the practice bike, we put his race bike together with about 5 minutes to spare for the second 15 minute qualifying session. Of course, Mike had never ridden this track at all and had no chance to test anything here, so his first few laps were nothing more than looking around laps.

He made a stop at his mechanic Todd to adjust the forks to make them stiffer, then headed out to do a hot lap. He cruised up to the bowl turn, then got on the gas hard heading up to the finish line. When he got there the checked was waving.

His lap time of 2:39 was on a lap that two guys fell in a tight corner in the back section, in where Mike had to go around in the really, really soft stuff (I was watching him there) he lost so much time there!

We all know that he would have been at least 5 to 10 seconds a lap faster.

It would have helped to have completed the first practice session, because we really needed to add on tooth to the rear sprocket as well.

We are so sorry to disappoint all of our fans... we learned a great deal and know that our results at Unadilla will be much better.

As an aside, Mike said that there were tons of people cheering him on, waving towels, shouting and more. I even heard the guys standing next to me at the track talking about Project Two 50, then I pointed out Mike to them. They were very happy and excited.

We know that we are heading in the right direction and will improve.

Thank you all for your amazing support!

Roll on Unadilla.

It is a real shame, and I really feel for you guys - but sometimes some shitty luck like that is just out of your hands and there is not much you can do :(

I'll be there to support you guys for the next two. It will come together!!!

Word on the street is that one of the big wigs from Honda threw that rock at Mike which broke his clutch cover.

Let's get some spare parts.......shifter,clutch & magneto covers rear brake pedal ect ect.
robbing the practice bike for parts on raceday is bad for morale.Stuff like the rock sticks in everyones mind. Pulling a fresh part off the shelf minimizes the phycological suckiness of the situation.

TRUE DAT!!!  :P

Troops, forward march to Unadilla!!!

Everyone's behind you 100% no matter what. The dissapointment isn't with Project 250, it really lies in the kind of stale state that Pro Motocross finds itself in these days, with it's severely combed out program (Half a freaking DAY of sterile timed qualifiers instead of the MUCH more entertaining heats?) and with the races vigerously showcasing their parade of unbroken corporate conformity, Fart Cart 4 Strokes marching in circles and sounding like a hog farm after a class trip to texas wiener! The other place to see gaily painted horses fart around in circles in single file was the merry go round at Pee Wee's Playhouse but  thankfully, that show's over!

Maybe attendance is off because some people who used to go to pro events are finding the amateur events more exciting these days... I mean wasn't stock car racing a lot more exciting before it became so boxed in and perfect? These perfect rows of sameness are severely boring!

Thanks,

Jim

No apologies necessary John. When you race, things like this happen. I agree, for Mike, missing the first practice was a huge disappointment I am sure. But you did not disappoint your fans, at least not this one. When I got that twitter about the broken clutch cover my only thought was "Mike must be freaking out".  Now you guys have one under your belts and know what to expect now. Unadilla will be easier now. Not the riding part of course, but the nerves, not knowing what to expect, etc.

Firstly, I want to thank all of you for your amazing outpouring of support. It really helps.

I wanted to clarify something as well... it's about the "fast" lap that Mike did take (the 2:39)... at best he was riding at about 80% of what he is capable of. Anyone watching could see that he was trying to learn the track if they watched closely.

He only hit the double in the back once... between learning the track and needing some adjustments on the bike, he was just getting ready to put his head down for a fast lap wen practice was over.

It really seemed that the 15 minute practice went by super fast!!

When we checked the results at the AMA tent, Mike was listed as qualifying 75 out of 80, which really does not show what could have been. My observation with watching Mike race is that he could have knocked off at least 12 seconds from the lap time they had listed. Which means he certainly would have qualified.

This trip was a very, very expensive lesson for all of us.

Unless you actually have done this you have no idea of the costs involved. Just sign up alone was $200. pit passes are $40. per person. That's just to get into the race. Then take into account fuel, tolls, food and other misc. items and you are talking about an effort requiring a great deal of money.

That's the reason that we were all so disappointed. Even if he qualified and finished 40th in the motos we would have been so happy.

We will be in the bid show at Unadilla!

Did I mention that 'dilla is Mike's favorite track??

Gotta say can not wait for Unadilla. That will make a big difference if he has done plenty of laps around unadilla compared to red bud, which I am assuming he has never ridden before. Should give him plenty of confidence sitting on a start gate that he is familiar with.

You are making a much bigger difference than you probably realise. Keep up the amazing work, and help to continue to lift the profile of the two strokes !!!!!!!!!

You are not kidding John, its insane how much the AMA charges pro's to race, it should be free or close to it in my opinion.

Pro license - $275
Entry - $200
Passes - $40
Fuel - who knows??
Then you have to make sure all your gear has the right logo on it and everything right, as well as numbers, etc. on your bike that stuff isnt a huge deal but it adds up to if you dont have help with it.

I had been thinking about racing steel city if my leg allowed me too, but doubt Ill have the money to do so, but I am going either way too watch.
