I don't know how many of you have heard of this race, but it's pretty big here in
Europe and many say it's the toughest Hard enduro race there is. The sixth edition of this competition is now under way. I always liked Romaniacs because of two reasons:
Firstly, there are soooo many two strokes there :D. Safe to say they outnumber thumpers by far. I have a hard time imagining a four stroke doing some of those things that the two strokes do out there, and I feel sorry for those who try and race on a four stroke :).
Secondly of course because this race is awesome :D.This year, on the first day, only 30 percent of all PRO class racers finished. ONLY 1 out of 60 or so EXPERT class racers finished, and none of the HOBBY class made it (about 80 participants). And this is just the first day :D.
Some of my countrymen tried to tackle this challenge last year. They practically destroyed the bike (it was a nice 250 cr) and made it to maybe day three if I remember right.
To give you the idea here's the video of this year's first day:

And some interresting stuff from years before:

I dream to try and do this myself some day, maybe even finish :D.

That last video was really cool. I have never even heard of this race, but I have to say I don't think i would enjoy riding it much... ;D :o
-
Man, those courses are pretty damn creative. I like that last shot of wheelying on the rooftop.
It would be fun to give it a shot, but I know I'd be smoked after the first hill section.

Some of the guys from Nitro Circus once tried this race :). Here's what they thought:

That is insane, some of the stuff, I could say I could do, not fast though, but most of it... Forget it.

I've first heard of this event in Dirt Rider last year. I have a friend who use to give me these magazines for free and I would read them to waste some time. So, one day he gave me one (can't remember which month) and I was flipping through the pages when I found the article about Romaniacs. I thought it was pretty cool, with all the insane obstacles. I heard there are a lot of crashes too. It looks like an awesome event to go to if I would go to Romania. ;D
-
Definitely :)

Those guys have some serious "stones".
I was just reading about the Erzberg Rodeo where Taddy Blazusiak won his 4th consecutive race.
Only 15 riders out of 500 finished this years Erzberg !
You need some serious riding skills to enter these events.
Good to see Chris Birch doing well after the first day ;D
-
Would have given it a go ten years ago but you could forget it nowadays.
Guys like Taddy have got some serious bike skills :o
-
It's a pitty, but Taddy Blazusiak hurt his shoulder really bad and will not finish this year in Romaniacs :\.
-
A local rider got 6th overall at Erzberg (Corey Graffunder).
-
He probably went riding there every day after work :D
-
YEAH joakim ljunggren 3rd place the second day :D seventh O/A so far tough
-
Romaniacs and Erzberg are the two biggies.Last man standing sort of a US version on a smaller scale.I'd love to go to any of them. 8)

I've woken up in a cold sweat from dreams like that. :o

I most definetly heard of the Romaniacs race !!! I have'nt ever been there, not yet anyway but it's one race I will attend in the future!"as a spectator of course".And I'd also like to say from watching your video that race even looks a hell of a lot harder than the old Blackwater 100 we used to have back here in the United States!!! :P
-
Yeah I am definitely going there as as visitor. In fact, I hear the organizations cleverly arranged motorcycle routes for spectators. You can ride practically alongside the competitors for the entire day. You just follow local roads and sometimes take shortcuts (that are quite tough, but not as hard as the real deal) and you visit all the checkpoints where the riders pass along the way, or so I understand. Pretty nice. I will definitely go and have a look one day :). It would be cool to try and race but you have to be able to afford to build a nice bike and then completely destroy it :D.
-
You would definately destroy a dozen expansion chambers!! The poor bike, i dont know if i could do it to my precious steed.....................maybe if i had mega amounts of $$$$$$$$ :P
-
Kiwi wins Romaniacs. ;D ;D ;D
Chris Birch won the event today.
Congratulations Chris.

Nice race. The winners have some crazy skills. Everyone who finished did a great job, and those who didn't, well there's always the next year :D.
