Title: I need articles to convince a friend to buy a two stroke
Post by: Hondacrrider on June 23, 2010, 07:44:36 PM
So, my friend is thinking about buying a two stroke, but his doesn't like them because they are "loud". Can anyone give me some articles on how loud modern four strokes are?

Fire up a 501 Maico with a straight stinger in his living room.  He'll still think it's loud, but with all the orgasms he'll be having, he won't care.

I have heard the same comment before.
Thing is 2 strokes have what i would call a treble type sound where as 4 stroke have a bass sound.
2 strokes are only loud if you stand behind them.
Who here has been out riding before and had the shits put up them when someone on a smoker has gone flying past ?
You can hear a 4 stroke coming from along way back.

Tell your mate to watch a smoker and a 4 stroke from 200m away and see which one is louder. :)

In Calgary there is an ORV site called Mclean Creek and west of this area is a Provincial park that my parents in law often take me to when we visit. The strange thing is that when we hike in the park you can't hear the two strokes but man are those four strokes noisy. The sounds of piped fourstroke bikes and quads is at times deafening as the racket echoes through the hills.

well, I am thinking that his Dad is thinking of the older style four strokes, such as the xr's, which were quiet, but, the new ones just aren't

Modern four-stroke motocross bikes are loud, older XR type four-strokes are quiet as long as they don't have a race pipe.

Here is an article I wrote about noise quite a while back. I researched this very carefully, hope it helps!

Success! He bought a two stroke rm 125, it's super quiet, which is refreshing, compared to my other friend's 250f's.
