Title: 1981 RM 125X
Post by: 83 CR480R on May 28, 2010, 02:25:17 PM
Last week I bought my wife a 1981 RM125X so she could go riding with my son and I.  It was running, but was one UGLY machine...mercifully I only paid $200 for it.  Plastic(s) by Krylon.....you can imagine.  I ordered some crank seals along with the drive seal, kickstarter shifter ect...so she would stop dripping on our garage.

Anyone have any expeirence with this particular old RM?  I do not believe I have to split the cases to replace these seals, but is there anything in particular I should know?  Would appreciate any hints before i go "crashing-in."

I once bought 6 or 7 of them disassembled in boxes.By the time I got to the last few I'm pretty sure I could have assembled them blind folded.

I had an '81 about 20 years ago. I miss that bike sometimes.

You were not kidding!  http://www.ozvmx.com/community/ (http://www.ozvmx.com/community/)  does have LOTS of helpful information.  I really appreciate the direction.

I remember that the old RM's had a problems siezing-up if they were not allowed to warm-up enough.  Since the 81 is the 1st water-cooled 125, I believe this may apply.  Any thoughts?
