this was my year and a half project. i paid $20 for it and its been a pain in the butt. i just got it done about an hour ago. its not 100% but its close enough(small details are left all the major stuff is done). when i bought it a year and a half ago it was in horrible shape. it took four boxes to get it out of the garage. the previous owner poured paint thinner all over the frame and swing arm, the left side case was busted, the forks were shot, carb slide was sitting on the garage floor so it was toast, and the back wheel disappeared. finding parts was the easiest part of the project, trouble shooting was a pain in the but. when i finally got it running it would jump into gear so i replaced all the washers and c clips on the transmission. still happened. then i replaced the shift forks. still happened. finally i replaced the shift drum and the problem was solved. then the carb tuning took for ever but its finally done and im happy w/ my $20 purchase

That thing is nice, good job.......i had one of those Yammie 250's back in the day
-
Beautiful bike. I've got an '83, but instead of refreshing it to original I'm slowing bastardizing it to what I want it to be. :o
-
Was'nt 1986 the first year Yamaha came out with the white/red color scheme?
-
Have always been partial to Red/White.
Very nice bike.
-
Well, Yamaha were doing the red-and-white deal in Europe for a very long time. I've seen races from, like, 1979 that have white and red (or pink) Yamahas. In fact, I think the European YZ was white from day one. Not sure when they went there in America, though.

Wow,more good 'uns.Nice job for sure. 8)

In the US, 1985 was the year the YZ's went to white.
Good looking YZ's, I have always been a fan of the 80's bikes.
-
In 1982 the YZ's went red and white in Canada.Nice looking bike, is there a class dedicated to such bikes in your area you can race it in?
-
I had an 84 white and red YZ! 80cc! I love it too!

Can't wait to see the RM finished.I bought the 125 version back in 99.It was definitely a handling machine and the engine screamed but weak on power if under a load. The KTM I replaced it with had a ripping engine by comparison but it didn't handle close to the RM.I always thought back then, the KTM engine in the RM chassis would be a thing of beauty-and I still think that.
On another note,if the 250 is like the 125,now would be a good time to have a go at the water pump-the 125's was internal :(

Love the YZ................good job, must be satisfying seeing it finished and hear it running.

Huh? CR500AF aluminum frame.

Helfrick, those bikes looks great. I love it when people bring these bikes back to life. Miedoso, love the Honda 250, and keep us posted on that RM 250.

my bad, never post while drunk.

Very nice job on that YZ! I wish more people would jump in and give
an old ride a second chance. It's fun, and a lot of them still go like
stink when your done. Beats riding a four stroke.
