So, i was thinking about riding a ktm 150 sx next year. only problem is that i think I am a little too heavy for it, as I will ride many races in the season. I have a guy that will rebuild the suspension if necessary, i was thinking about being smoked by featherweight kids. I would call my self a intermediate rider, a little bit more aggressive than smooth and I wont ride much sand, and when I do i dont care about results because I hate sand now a days.
Any ideas?

Pinner to winner.......Practice your hole shots....good starts are better than trying to play catch up.Wait for the person infront of you to make a mistake and make your move. Or get a team mate and have him run blocker.....oh I got it put a small tank of Nitros in the seat foam connect it to the kill switch so no one knows. Anyway best of luck to you as long as you beat 1 4t thats good enough for us!

:)Hey losec, why don't you go ahead and race in the 250cc class with a KTM 250sx?I weigh between 188 to 193Ibs.My weight often flucuates and I don't currently race MX but I ride a 300xc & it fits me perfectly! If I were you depending on your age and riding skills I would go with a 250cc 2-stroke of course and what I like about the KTM's is they can be easily detuned or hopped up depending on your riding skills & ability.Nonetheless do what you feel most comfortable with and good luck in whatever you decide to do!

Yea maybe you are right G-money
Well I forgot to mention that I live in sweden, and here the rules says mx2 125 or 144 two stroke and 250f in mx2. I was thinking about riding a 250 twostroke in mx1 but then again then 150sx looks much more fun :D I havent tested one yet but I will try soon :)

125 class bikes are a blast and you're not to heavy for it.Obviously your power to weight wouldn't compare to a 125lb kid but that's the same regardless of displacement.Id go for it. 8)

Get a 150 you'll love it
-
I doubt you would have any drama either................just ride the wheels off it >:D
-
I just been informed that on our very consevative dyno here a stock 144 made 40.2HP which is very good engine. Jump on and ride the wheels off it.

The only thing I will warn you of, is that while reading rules abroad I came across a rule change. If it is the same group as I read, not sure, it says for 2011 it will go back to 125cc from 144cc. Check your rules before hand. But as far as the bike goes, the 150sx is plenty for you. I weigh about the same as you and ride a 125 250 and 500. The 125 I just need a little more, so am gonna make it a 144cc. So go for it if the rules are there.

What and where are these rule changes happening???
The rules are in a shambles because of the four-stroke handicap.... no matter where you go in the world, country or Pro vs. Amateur the rules can be different.
Of course the simple way to fix the problem is to eliminate the handi-cap... but of course that is a near impossiblity now...

Page 21 of the UEM rules state for EMX2 "From 2011, up to 125ccm 2 stroke engines and over 175cc up to 250cc for 4-stroke engines". Current EMX2 allows up to 144 cc two strokes.

I rode a buddy's KTM144 right after he bought it 2 years ago at a large outdoor fast track, it was just a open ride but there was a few decent riders there, and Im a Expert/Pro level rider and I weighed about 260 then and after a lap or two I was tearing that thing up jumping everything going wide open on it and blowing by everyone there I was having the most fun I had had in a long time on that thing and the suspension was all messed up on it way too much sag, etc.
If I had the money to buy a new bike, I would buy one, have the suspension revalved for me, and be a happy man, I honestly jumped eveyrthing almost just as easy on that bike as I could on my 250 2-stroke, I couldnt beleive how hard it pulled with my fat ass on it.
Get one youll be a happy man

Had a 2008 ktm 144 and loved the bike. i am about 220 and the motor was great and pulled very hard ,my only problem with the bike is that the motor blow up 3 times and spent more time at the dealer then riding it.
-
3 times :o What happened?

the first two years of the 144SX were a real black eye for KTM. constant problems (seizures!) plauged that model and the factory had no fix. they would come up with one fix and it wouldn't work then it was something else. they tried jetting, cranks, black boxes, nothing worked. they finally worked out the problems and started calling it the 150SX.
-
First time the crank let go. second time piston ring broke. third time the stator came apart and locked up the engine.i will say the dealer fixed it all but i just could not trust the bike any longer and sold it.
-
jfalat with all due respect I'm by no means calling you a liar at all but with you being 220Ibs & racing or even just riding the KTM-144 2-stroke I would say a person your weight on the 144cc bike is a good bit heavy for that size bike!At 220Ibs.you should be on a larger bike! ie.KTM-250sx w/300cc. head,or you would be a good candidate for one of the open class 2-strokes such as 300 to 500cc. ;)
-
i am to big for a 144 ;D, but i enjoy riding them. my point was that the ktm 144/150 has a very strong motor and will pull all types of riders sizes and weights. i just happen to have a little bad luck with my bike. i do ride my 250 more than my new 125, but i just love the sound of a pinned 125 and they are a blast to ride. plus it helps me keep my corner speed up.
-
Lots of ktm 144 here in europe and no problems with them. And they are not only fast enough but 99% for sure you will be faster on a 144 then on a 25o 2 stroke or 450 four stroke. Because even prof?expert riders do not manage to be faster on a 450 then on a 250 four stroke. So a 144 is about the same speed as a 250 4 stroke. So if you want to be fast buy the 144. And you are not too heavy.

Here is a video of a 190lb racer on a 125.... when at the races, he gives up the starts against the 250F's but is usually in the top three by the end of the race.
Please forgive the music!!

::) Wintrader,I'm certainetly NOT ragging on jfalat for being 220Ibs. & riding a 144cc.or even a 125cc.2-stroke! I was merely suggesting that a bigger ride would probabley fit him as well as "Last"jfalat longer ie."less wear & tear on the bike"after all the maintainence issues he had in the past.jfalat mentioned a broken piston ring, the crank let go etc.so I'm just saying a beleive a larger bike would be jfalats BEST bet! I myself ride a 300cc. bike for many of the same reasons & have'nt had the same problems. But by all means if a rider prefers or most of all has more "FUN" blasting around the track or wherever on a 144 then that's what he should do! ;D
