Title: The hunt for more power :)
Post by: Rota Ash on May 09, 2010, 07:19:24 PM
as far as mods go, what else is there to do ? my bike has been ported has better reed valves, has a gnarly pipe, still has a stock cut down silencer ( do aftermarket ones make much difference)

what else is there to do in the world of 2 strokes for more power besides bigger capacity ???

My fingers would fall off from typing before I could completely answer that question.
Explain wht you mean by 'ported' which ports and by how much are they altered?
Off the shelf pipes really only work with stock engines(and not that good either)

Set the squish band properly for the fuel you are using.

2t's right Rota, that's too broad of a question. Have you got a copy of "The 2 stroke tuners handbook"?. Don't forget that the more you try to pump out of your engine the less reliability you'll have. Why not bigger bore?

No more power is needed, just hold it on longer........ :D

My recommendation is to throw your bike in the garbage and get a newer one.  Somewhere on the bike it should say what year the bike was made, and I hear that horsepower goes up in relation with the square of that number.  And as always, don't forget to always run Nitromethane as your fuel of choice.  Gasoline is for cleaning the engines, alcohol is for drinking, and Nitro is for racing.  Crackle on!

Hey, fellows! :) Could you explain a poor novice how to cut my stock muffler for a 40%, and how much power will i gain.? ^:))

Not worth the effort for power or noise. The silencers that come with the pipes, aftermarket or OEEM are engineered to provide the max form a design. In fact look back at a few reviews for Honda in particular. The stock pipe/silencer is hard to beat. All you'll do is gain very little up top if at all and lose the spread.

Before I would EVER spend 10,499 bucks on a big bore 2-stroke "AND NO PUN INTENDED"it would have to be a European 2-stroke & definetly NOT Japanese! ;D :P :o

Who in the world knows why do Keihins have an electric valve? As far as i know it opens at some RPM and gives engine some more fuel. I tried shortening it onto a battery and it opened and closed successfully, whatever polarity i used. But i can't understand if it works or not on a working engine. So, here's the deal.  lets install a small battery and a button on the bar. When the button is pressed, the valve is opened. And it''l  be possible to add some fuel whenever it's needed.  :)

The Power Jet works exactly the opposite of what you describe. It's a normally-open solenoid. It delivers extra fuel to supplement the main jet when the engine is running in the meat of the torque curve to prevent a lean condition under heavy loads. At a programmed rpm, the ECU energizes the solenoid to shut off the extra fuel to lean the mixture out slightly for better top-end over-rev. If you disconnect the wire to the Power Jet, it will remain open. The only difference you will notice is a small loss of over-rev.

+ 1 on that.
Power jets were devised to split the main jet circuit, so you could have good drive while on the needle and not go rich at peak, then someone found the more rpm the more fuel the power jet delivers, hence the soleniod cut.
Tip No1 leave it to the cdi as your going to be to busy to put your finger on a button to cut it :D

Damn! I'm an idiot!  ::) I took it apart and it seemed like the solenoid OPENS that stuff when connected to a battery... You sure, buddy???
So, can i enrich the mixture on the top end a bit, eg by the float adjustment and the n connect that valve and have no smoke and good responce? :)

Dont try to adjust the float to correct mixture problems.
Always use jets to do the job.

If you think its lean on top put a bigger main jet in it. Have a go, you wont blow your motor by richening it up. You'll know if it's too rich cause it will run like shit. One way to learn about jetting is to change them.

But i was running great on the jet that already was installed, just one day i was cleaning the carb and messed up everything. The problem is the float, not the jet. I raise the very fuel level - and the engine suffocates with petrol. The jet is surely enough.
