Can someone answer this,why is it everytime i see a af cr500 i have this severe craving for one and instantly think that i will be so much quicker riding one .Is it the the noise? is it the vibration?is it the broaaaaaaap? or am i just screwed in the head seen a 09 af conversion over here and looks awesome plus another one, a ktm 380sx bolted into a 350sxf frame a very effortless conversion according to the owner help us i cant be the only one with this affliction and we need true help

I'd scrape together every spare cent I have for a 380sx/2013 frame. I had an 01 380sx. The power was so broad, and versatile. It would creep up walls pulse by pulse and tear in to the overrev in the deepest loam. Combine that with great suspension and you have a nearly do it all bike.... nearly....

Depending on what kind of rider you are and fitness level and where you want to ride a 500. I have a fully worked CR 300 and I can scare the poop out of me. A friend of mine has a 500 and its to much power wheel spin everywhere and a **** to keep the front end down. I personally find 250/300 two strokes can literally go anywhere as long as you know how to use your clutch properly. A 500 does look awesome but you have to be a very good rider not average or below but again depends where you ride as well. Is it long straight trails, hill climbs sand dunes or tight tracks, The tight stuff you had better know what you are doing or else trees will sort you out real quick. I love the 500 two strokes and admire guys who can throw them around like 250s, but not many can. I ride with a guy who was 4 time QLD champion and he now has a 150 KTM, there is no one in our group who can keep him in the tight stuff, I have no idea how he does it those things sound like mosquito buzzing by and I rode it and wondered where the power was, it was somewhere I could not find. Make sure you ride one (500) before buying one. I may just shock you into reality. FYI I ride my standard 250/01 two stroke quicker than my fully worked CR 300/05 but the CR is awesome and really challenging.

Definitely the noise Vetman. Oh, and they do look so trick. You would definitely be faster on one. Stop kidding yourself with whatever you are riding now and buy one !!

You are not the only one lusting for a big bore smoker... If I had one, I'd have to put a throttle stop on it to keep me from going past 1/2 throttle... Yes just too much power for us mere mortals.... but ooooohhhh soooo much fun...

after owning one in for a few months.. it isn`t as scary as everyone says.
I feel that my supermini 125 scare me more than the 500 does
it good pull but man the sound just makes you giggle in you helmet
I found out that if you push the kick til its light to compress and hear a click. it faily easy to start

No I'd say using a little hill to bump start it is easier...

I just went back a page on postings, and saw the static pic had a thread already.

Put a simple decomp on a 500, and they're childs play to start. As for the d***heads that scorn that, and feel you should be a 'hard man' to start a 500, I say, go **** yourself. The less effort / quicker to start my 500 is, leaves me more in my tank, for riding - plus you don't stress the cases / KS shaft. I use an tiny, Gas Gas lever as a KS lever, so I don't have to bend my non - bendy knees too far, during starting. You'd be lucky to turn the bike over with it, and you'd certainly break the pivot post (13mm, as against 19mm, if I recall correctly) in a few kicks, without the decomp.

looks hot presume it woulve been a custom pipe made for it ,i raced a 96 and 97 kx 500 a fair few years ago
and they had that old schooll pipe layout from the 80s awsome pics though

He is probably in like third gear and riding it like a 450.
