Hey guys can anyone tell me the benifits/disadvantages of a shorty mufflers over longer, anyone ever shortened one themselves.
-
i think it has to do with throttle response shorter = snappier, longer = mellower er.
-
What racer said, wouldnt be too hard to do ya self i dont think
-
Shorty's add snap off the bottom and mid range but you can lose a bit of over rev. The longer mufflers usually make the power more linear. As for shortening them yourself it's pretty easy, I used to take about 40mm of my kx 125's.

My muffler (TM300en) has been shortened 100mm to match the mx muffler.
Common mod on the en's.
What racer x said.
-
In back to back testing, I've never been able to tell any difference.
-
The shorty looks cooler and makes more noise
makes the throttle response a little snappier
-
hey tmkiwi did you shift the mounts once its shorter i presume you did away with the second mount and mounted on the lower braket
-
Still using the stock mounts.
The en muffler is very long.
-
Just go TM 250 style.

bring back old school, had priced up a mx hgs muffler but at about $300 but shortning looks good will go with the 100mm if its working on ya 3hundy but i might reposition the mount ,saves me having to dick about cutting and rewelding the endcap and can take the excess out of the header end cheers for that.

A shorty has less back pressure, with lower engine temps with long motos. That,s why the pro,s used short silencer,s even tho you loose some top end power.
