Title: wheels?
Post by: racer142 on December 23, 2012, 09:58:59 PM
Anybody have any experience with Excel versus pro wheel rims. Looking at one of these kits http://www.motosport.com/dirtbike/rim-and-spoke-combos I know most people swear by Excel but I've never really heard about pro wheel. Just curious if anybody has any personal experience with them or if the Excel kit is worth the extra $160 over the pro wheel. I know the dna and warp 9 are supposed to be terrible. Just ring to get back riding my test run on my kx250 is cracked

I run excel with talon hubs with no problems, i can not comment on pro wheel or excel with stock hubs. spoke torque is important as in the  past i have overtightend and broke spokes on hard landings. good luck racer142.

DO NOT run pro wheel

they are junk compared to excel

my friend bought dna's within a few rides the rear rim cracked (he rides a 450) but that shouldn't be happening when he spent 750 for brand new whole wheels with tires

ive already respoked both front and back wheels on his with buchanan spokes, as the stock dna ones are terrible, they strip out super easy

i personalyl would build the wheels with excel rims and buchanan spokes

I have had 2 sets of Pro Wheel rims. The anodizing faded quickly, but they held up just like OEM. Their spokes seem to get loose a lot though, I'd stay away from those.

I have had a set of Warp9 wheels also. They are at least OEM quality, which is good since I've never broken an OEM wheel in over 15 years of racing. The main downside I have found with the Warp9 rims is they have a flat spot at the weld which makes them a little harder to true, but you can still get them within tolerance.
