i think it has to do with the size of the fork tube, so if the 12 has 50mm and your 06 has 50mm it should fit. there is also the axel as well you have to see if they are the same diameter or you may need a 12 hub to match. good luck

Dude, I think he is talking about a complete swap AKA triples etc. I say go for it, the worst that could happen is that you have to swap out stems on the triples.  If they fit in the stock triple go for it, you could get lucky. I thought they were running 48mm kyb's but I maybe wrong.

Same stem bearings, should bolt over with little to no problems.

On a side note, the stem bearings on the 96-2012 yz250 match the 91 rm125/250. Easy upgrade for anyone that's interested haha.

If you are swapping the entire front end, I'd be 98.64% confident that the '12 450 front end would physically bolt right up.  I've put an '07 450 and now an '11 450 front suspension on my '04 kx 125 framed bike and the stem lengths are the same.

The bigger issue for you could be the length of the actual forks.  The 450 forks were longer than the 125 forks.  I had to run the 450 forks so high in the clamps to get the correct front end height that I ran out of clamping area on the lower clamp (if that makes sense).  It wasn't that difficult or expensive, but I shortened the 450 forks to get the proper fit.

I believe the '11 and '12 450 forks are identical.  I've revalved the '11 forks for woods riding, but they are the best I've ridden.

just get the whole front end. clamps andforks. itll make it easier. however if the forks are the same diameter then your golden. i think theyre around 48mm
