Title: my new rig 2006 cr125
Post by: Critta on September 19, 2012, 04:24:51 AM
hey guys got a new bike last week and here it is
yes i know the graphics are bad but it's got the original stickers underneath them which are in good shape it's a 2006 not sure how many total hours, the owners before us put a hour meter on it after it got a rebuild and it read 1.1 hours before i rode it. but we are gonna give it a check over and get the suspension set to my weight for now but it cleaned up really good with abit of degreaser and scrubbing!

That's a nice tidy bike Critta, the bottom of the case and top of the cylinder is just dirt, it hasn't been washed off properly, I used stuff called Alu-brite, just dilute with water in a squirty bottle n a stiff brush, just can't mix it too strong or the Ally goes white. Look forward to the video And I would be pullin the carby n stripping it, that doesn't look nice that dirt runnin down the back of the slide. Ya got dirt n water comin in thru the top by the looks

you can always tell a 2 stroke rider / racer one finger is permanently covering the clutch . i still do it now on every bike i ride weather its the twist and go scooter { covering rear brake } 450 KTM or my full blown ex factory superbike 1 finger covers the clutch .
video looks great just tilt your camera up higher so we can see whats coming instead of the front mudguard :-}} great track

haha yeah i know i used to ride like that but i started getting lesson from a ex pro rider over here and he's like you just gotta tractor it or it'll throw you off which it did when i use to rev it out and bash the clutch haha but oh well i'll sort out i saw the footage and i gutted! someone knocked it so i just guessed where to put it, but it could of been worse haha

Coming off a 450 on to a 125 I'd say you did quite suberbly. One thing I might recommend is hitting the outside line a bit more often. The corner at 2:19 for example. It looks like its got a little bit of a berm on it with softer dirt. I could be completely wrong though it was hard to see. But the biggest advantage yo uhave over the 250Fs is you're ability to take outside lines faster. But don't bother if you're traveling 3 times the distance they are.
Keep it up mate

cheers champ, yeah i gotta try hit outside lines abit more riding the two stroke as i've realised after not riding one for so long, but i'm having a ball so it's awsome but i'm always trying to improve!

hey guys does anyone know if the plastic bolt kits from 2002-2004 crf 450r's fit the later cr shapes?
Title: my new rig 2006 cr125
Post by: scotty dog on September 25, 2012, 11:23:21 PM
I think they do, by the looks of it the tank, shrouds, seat and side plates are different to the CR. I wanna know if the later CRF plastics will fit the CR, like 08 450 and up.

Post by: Stusmoke on September 26, 2012, 03:19:11 AM
I enquired about this very same thing for my 2001 CR125 and the answer was no. However I think there were a couple of chassis, subframe and fuel tank changes in the wanning years of the CR so chances are the mounts for the CRF and CR were the same in the 04-07 period. I'm not sure if it got changed from 08 upwards though. Except for the 2013 obviously

dont get ASVs levers. yes they have the fancy folding deal but the part of the lever that is bolted in is thin so it bend there and get sloppy. get something solid like WC sunline... just my .02.
with plastic if your patient and want a decent challenge you can fit the newer CRF '10 -12 plastic on it. i saw a vid of a kid who did it with an 01. looked awesome
and you dont need to ALWAYS keep one on. i remember watching the Great Outdoors 2004(another perfect season) and the slow moes show stewart not riding the clutch to much...WHY you ask?? cuz his wrist was on lock down

If im about to whip it or land a flat grounded jump I usually take my fingers off the levers, but only at the point when I'm truly dedicated to taking the jump so around when my front wheel first hits the upwards slope.

oh i just meant like the bolts that hold the plastics on not the actually plastic haha! i was thinking of getting some bling bolts for my 125 and putting the old one's on my dads 02 450 because it's pretty much held together by zip ties and odd bod bolts..

it depends. If you want nothing but mid range and top end a pro circuit or FMF SST would be ideal. Be prepared to richen up your jetting a bit if you go with the FMF SST cos I've heard of people melting pistons and atleast one person on here said that they fixed that issue with a little richer jetting. Apparently its to do with the steep angle of the expansion chamber.

yeah that sounds good i used to have the hold series and the shorty on my 05, but i've been told the 06 run abit different with pipes because of something to do with the rc valve.. but i'm no mechanic so i have no idea at all haha

I run an FMF fatty and either a turbinecore sparky (off-road) or the shorty for the track on my 06 CR250 and you will likely need to re-jet anyway. I also run a JD kit on the stock carb and this really helped as the late model CR's stock jetting was pretty sketchy. I agree that a Pro Circuit pipe and silencer would be a great choice if you are looking for a top end oriented powerband. I like the FMF because it smoothed out the low to mid transition on my 250, it all depends on what you are looking for.

Can you not just buy a number on the day? My local club will give you a number on the day then you just buy some cheap numbers for 20p from a van/shop and go race. Iv never seen anyone race with a letter instead of a number before.

Congrats on the clean 06, I have the same bike. I got mine to use as a practice bike, to save my stroker crank mod 04 for races. Anyway the stock reeds floodered, get a rad valve for much better low to mid, remove reeds-then polish the inside smooth, polish intake cases too since you,ll have the reed block out, polish both sides of carb. You,ll get on the pipe much quicker, use a higher gear in corners. The older style icat, works better than the new icat ibooster, I tried them both on the 06.In the USA the stock silencers are much shorter, that long silencer is too restrictive. I tried a 03 kx HGS bud pipe, that I pounded, bent and cut to fit on my 04 cr125. The 04 has a radiator hose on the inside of the pipe, that the 06 doesn,t have. That pipe really woke it up, snappier, quicker hit then a much stronger mid pull all the way to 12,000 rpm, then with over rev to about 13,750. An honest 38-39 hp, but very easy to ride and so much more fun. The vforce reed also works good, doesn,t have the low to mid boost the rad valve has tho. Youtube vid mx207 Maine state championships 2-stroke 125 class, the helmet cam is on a stock cr125, at 2.58 a mod cr125 passes him, big diff. in hp and awesome sound. Another vid is MSMC 2-stroke Class Moto 3 // uncut , 2 cr125,s pull away from everybody.

Title: my new rig 2006 cr125
Post by: Super Trucker on October 10, 2012, 05:25:25 PM
I,m computer stupid, don,t know how to link stuff. But Boyeseen makes the rad valve, the hgs bud pipe I purchased from Langston racing in the USA. The pipe is made in Holland, distributers are in Europe. The hgs pipe made for the 05-07 cr125, I heard is suppossed to have a big mid increase. Langston used to be a Doma importer, they had a few hgs pipes for what ever reason. On the internet I heard a kx pipe increased the low to mid, on the cr125. If your wondering that,s why I tried a kx pipe, I figured that I would get a low to mid increase at least. There,s quite a bit of fab work, cut the stinger-back of pipe and some of the silencer stinger off. Pound the pipe in to get clearance for the kick starter, bending in the stinger area, make a bracket for the rear pipe mount, have to use kx pipe springs, the stock front mount is still used. You just keep tweeking it until the pipe doesn,t touch the frame and stuff. The pipe has a super fat cone, the closest you can get to a factory Honda pipe. I grinded a little off the inside of the kick start lever also. The clamp I mentioned is just a piece of flat steel, drill 2 holes for mounting, a piece of rubber that the bolt goes threw, to deaden vibration. Kinda of fun project, that anyone can do in a afternoon.

Looks good, you could peal the melisha graphics off and run the stock graghics which look great. If your going to add a different seat cover in the future, install the seat cover over the stock cover, that,s what I do. A 04 125 seat works on a 06, it,s a tight fit tho, the 04 seat is softer and a little wider.

Looking good for that second video Critta. Couple of suggestions:
Try to get a basic idea of where the dirt is good. Obviously theres no point in going three times the distance just for good dirt, but it makes your job on a hard hitting 125 a little easier.
You seem to be taking the mid line and then switching to an outside line. As in, when you enter the corner you seem to be around about the middle then you tend to head for the outside. This makes for a sharp angle of hitting the berm thats on the outside usually. I would suggest entering the corner on the outside line, leaning it right over (where appropriate) and giving it some serious juice.
Something to note: I only watched the first minute or so of the vid cos my internet is just awful. Its likely that you got better throughout the vid but thats what I picked up from my viewing.
Otherwise, looking really good, you've got excellent control and I didn't hear a single bit of bog from that awesome litlte zinger.
