picked it up for 1500 bucks!
it needs a complete engine rebuild, but other than that there's not much wrong with it besides cleaning it up
this will replace my cr125
once i got it home i looked it over and its not in bad shape at all!
the only really BIG thing is that apparently whoever had it before me grinded the headstay bracket off of the head, so the bracket on the frame is still there, just not headstay, and no mount on the head for the headstay to mount to!
my plans are rebuilding the engine maybe a little porting to make the powerband a little better, get suspension done for me, get scalvini carbon silencer, either sell the factory fatty and get a chrome fatty or just have this one painted. silver wheels down the road (man i hate the black wheels!) and just go over the bike and replace what needs to be replaced. Once i sell my cr i should have enough money to do all of the above plus more
let me know what you think!
also, is there anything i should be aware of with this bike? i know the early 144's had issues with grenading
i'm a little weary on the no link rear end, but i think it'll be way better than my cr ever thought about being even without the linkage

Happy for you Ethan... But..... What happened to getting a Husky? Meh- I had an '08 and that was a superb 125... The '09 is similar and they are pretty darn reliable, the 144 was a different animal...

only thing really is $
i can sell my cr and have enough to make this my perfect bike
i could've waited for another year to save up but i wanted to get rid of the cr, and this ktm is a good bike, in the future i see myself having a husky AND a ktm, but not right now

I highly recommend Cycle Playground in PA for engine/carb work... Mike will make your 125 scream without braking the bank.

ya ive been talking to him about doing my engine, i feel that he would give me the best prices and do great work

SCORE on that bike! congrats! Looking forward to riding reports and pix of the refurbishment project!

i also plan on getting the frame painted that florescent orange. Munn ktm quoted me at 400 $ to get the frame done..idk about you guys but that seems pretty high to me. they told me that it would've been 600 if they had to take bike apart, 400 was me bringing the bare frame to them
i guess when i start i'll make a build thread
-
Good buy.
$400 is a bit steep just to paint a frame.
Are you able to do it yourself.?
-
$400 is ridiculous.

i have no way of doing the powder coating/painting myself
i'm going to look around more, as there are a few other people that could do it

$400 is ridiculous.
when i was talking to chip munn and he said that i almost dropped the phone..i was stunned by the price, i was nice and i said "ok thanks" and hung up lol
-
Yeah, if it were $400, I would go hit up the Krylon aisle at the local walmart lmfao.
-
Was that $400 for PAINT? Even for powder that's kinda steep.

he said it was powdercoating, either way its high, i mean 250 is reasonable, 300 is pushing it

SMS is the same people who are responsible for this gem

Check your local powdercoat guys. I got a KTM 125 frame done (white) in February for $100 by a local powdercoater.

According to MXA those 08 and 09 125s were rockets. KTM make a great small bore smoker thats for sure. Nice buy Ethan, be sure to post up some vids once its rebuilt. I can't believe you're not a fan of the black wheels though, they really mesh well with the seat and graphics I reckon. But I suppose after a tire change it probably looks like a burnt steak with salt on it.

That,s a good deal for the ktm, but I think your going to have problems, like the head stay braket-why does someone grind it off. The previous owner prob. gobbled the whole bike up, rear brake lever is bent or gobbled up. My advice is to sell it, the keep taking money-ktm will never come close to the cr,s handling, craftmans ship, or reliability. The mid to top motor doesn,t suit your riding style of riding. If your borred with the cr, have JM racing in Tx. do the porting, guarentee it will beat any ktm then.

the rear brake is not messed up, its just disconnected from the spring/reservoir. it is like this because munn ktm had to take the whole clutch cover off to see what was wrong with it, and instead of taking stuff off they just loosened it. obviously when i start tearing it down i'm going to look over everything and replace what is necessary. And just from looking at this bike, it it years ahead of the cr in craftsmanship

Kid down the street just picked up an 08 SX125, now if he'd only let me ride the thing.....
