Title: Introduction/pics of new bike
Post by: jayfack27 on July 12, 2012, 06:32:39 AM
Well my names Jason Fackender and literally waited until i got my 2 stroke to join this forum ethan bulls told me about, so i wouldnt be a poser haha.  I sold my 2005 crf250r a couple months back to go to college, now im back home and sold my AR-15 to get this nice 2003 kx250. just picked it up today. im pretty new to 2 strokes, but have never felt more comfortable on a bike, idk if its because its a kawi or 2 stroke, but i love it. Thanks to ethan for converting me into a 2 stroke fan. (i was going to get another 4 banger).  well heres pics of my new kx and sold crf

Thanks guys.  a couple questions from a 2 stroke nube:

what premix do you recommend with the motor being all original everything  50:1? the guy i bought it from said if i use 32:1 i might foul plugs because its all stock engine

what case oil do you guys recommend?

What type of riding are you doing.?
If you are racing stick with 32:1 If you are trail riding you can stretch it out to 40:1.
Adjust you jetting to suit.
I use Bel Ray Gearsaver in all my gearboxes but there are other good oils around as well.

Carefull: Asking for oil brand recomendations is like asking someone, how long is a piece of string. ;D

ugh i think i screwed up. i got amsoil dominator 50:1 and yes i will be racing.  i got in a hurry to go pick it up before the shop closed and got 50:1 and now im reading everywhere that that is real lean for racing hard.  the guy i bought the bike from told me to run any 50:1 to avoid fouling plugs and so thats why i got the 50:1.  should i take it back and get a 32:1 or will it be fine?

for the case oil i ended up getting maxima 85wt.

I'd stick with 32:1, better safe than sorry. It's not really the fuel mix that fouls plugs, poor jetting will. I would also recommend a Ratio Rite Cup for perfect premix :)

Ok will do, good thing i didnt crack the seal, im pretty sure they would exchange it if i go back tomorrow.  i was thinking 32:1 would be better but just went with what the guy i bought it from said because i didnt know any better.  would 40:1 be good?  figured thats kind of in the middle, and would use less each 5gal.

and i already have a mix cup with the lid from my girlfriends 85 i sold.

can you give me a specific oil i should get for racing, brand and everything.  and i will be using gas pump fuel highest octane, not racing fuel.

Why can't you run the Amsoil at 40:1, Amsoil is some good oil. I use Castrol at 32:1 in most everything

Wait you can run it however you want?  on the back it says 50:1. that doesnt matter?  i thought you had to buy an oil made specifically for running 32:1 ratio or 40:1 etc?

as far as I know you can mix it a whatever ratio you want, 4 oz. oil to 1 gal of gas= 32:1. My oil bottle has a chart for the amount of oil to use for the ratio you want.

Remember, going from 32:1 to 50:1 or beyond is in fact making your air/fuel mixture more rich, in that the amount of fuel vs oil per part is greater. This is often why spooge doesn't go away. Jet the bike, starting with the Air Screw. This will determine if you need a new Pilot jet. Once the slow speed circuit is proper, adjust the needle's position then Main jet size if needed.

you can run 50:1 but it all depends on how fast your riding and your jetting. if you look up the twostrokemotocross yz250 project from last year they were running the bike at 200:1 but that was with special lube coatings and drastic jet changes and hours of testing. I run my 125 @ 40:1 but im not ringing it out like a pro. 32:1 is whats recomended and id even suggest 40:1. ive heard of running 50:1 and even 70:1 on a one off racing motor but like motoxr377 said you have to change your jetting. the oil is only there to keep everythin lubed and if its running hard the whole way youll need more oil. if it helps that what a pro mech recommended

i would also recomend running 50/50 110 VP as the higher octane and lead is like crack for twostrokes. I put it in my 125 and it runs better. I wouldnt say night and day and it ripped my arms off but it pulls slightly better and crisper.

ive alwasy used motul transoil and their 2t oil and get a Ratio rite cup.

i went ahead and mixed it 50:1 with amsoil dominator. i heard its supposed to be super good and work best at that ratio, also heard itd lube fine if running hard because its just a better oil.  now as far as jetting and air screw crap im lost. only because im new to two strokes so i dont know how to tell if its running rich or lean etc.  ill try to read up on it though.

thanks man i love it!!!! WAYYYY better than my 2005 crf 250r.  i am now a new two stroke fan 4 life! i just need to get some graphics for it, especially new backgrounds since they got that kids name on it and not my #.  before that i want the suspension done for my weight.

anyone on here have a kx250 2003-newer with a graphics kit?  i need ideas. i like blake baggett style graphics, but monster is super over hyped.  id still want them if i could find them, but also i cant find how to get custom backgrounds for that kit.

Welcome aboard Jay, good to see another see the light, I used to run my 01 KTM 250sx at 50:1 using silkolene and 100 octane, never had a drama. You could get some TSM graphics  :D

thanks! bike is running SOOOO good at 50:1 with amsoil and i didnt even touch any jetting or air screws.  im pretty sure its spot on. thing rips!  ill try to make a video for you guys. i want to get my damn suspension done but im in need of money. i have the stock springs for it and springs that are too heavy and i need lower springs than stock says local pro action guy.  so im hoping i can maybe sell these two sets of fork and shock springs to get money, but idk what price i should sell them and they probably wont sell quick at all lol.  sucks.  i want to see the TSM graphics on a kx any pics?

I've used domintator at 32:1 in my yz125 and my buddy uses it at 32:1 in both of his yz250s.  Just because the bottle say 50:1 it won't hurt to run 32:1. If she's fouling plugs it will be because of the pilot most likely. Sometime adjusting the air fuel screw will take care of it..sometimes droping a pilot will help. I'm making the switch to Castor 927 on my yz125 next weekend. Amsoil is good stuff. I remember reading 50:1 or manufactur recommendation..somthing like that anyways
