Ok everyone, This year I am building a 85 CR250 for the IRIN program. The bike was laced raced by Kevin Adcock back in 86-87. The sat since. However, it was really rough I picked it up from him. He donated the bike for the program. Unfortunately it sat for several years with coolant in it so the right side case and water pump cover are trashed from corrosion (easy fix, buy good used parts).
I am doing a complete frame up build on it. Not going back to exact specs. I will be doing a few trick things to it.
A little history on the bike from what I have been told. It was raced at Loretta's and it was a Honda sponsored bike back in 85. Kevin won a Loretta title with it. He told me he has all of the original paperwork for the bike (needs to dig it up one of these days).
A little rundown on what I will be doing.
All new bearing from All Balls bearings (Sponsor of the IRIN program)
All parts will be soda / media blasted and refinished or brought back to org satin (machined look)
The following parts will be BC/CC (base coat / clear coat)
Engine cases
Frame
Hubs
org bars (option, may use renthal)
This is not a clean up and paint the frame kind of build. EVERYTHING is being gone through.
The IRIN program (Injured Riders In Need) is set up to help local injured riders that can not work for a period of time and do not have any means of financial support for awhile.
I build at least one bike per year. When the bike is completed it is sold and generally 70% of the funds go to the rider/s
The remaining 30% goes into the next bike.
It is very important to have as many sponsors as possible to help with these builds.
Current sponsors
All Balls bearings
SASB (soda / media blasting)
FMF
The track stand (local shop)
Gladwin Paint co.
If any of you have connections that be be able to help with the cost of some parts please let me know.
I got the bike all torn down and everything ready for blasting.
I will keep this thread updated as I make progress
I will do my best to provide before and after pics.
Enjoy
