Title: 2000 yz250 clutch
Post by: Ralphy77 on June 26, 2012, 06:35:49 AM
I have a 2000 yz 250. I recently installed ASV levers on the bike and I am having trouble with my clutch. It does not seem to be engaging. Do I need to replace the clutch cable as well? Any assitance is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the adjustment is out.
I would re-check it.

2X.Check to make sure there is a little slack in the cable when the lever isn't pulled in.

I have adjusted it all the way out and there is still no slack. Does this mean I need a longer cable?

Something is not right there.Recheck everything. There is no such thing as a "longer cable" and you would either have to make up a custom cable or find something else that would work.

It wouldn't surprise me if I have done something wrong, I am basically teaching myself everything as I go along. This bike was a complete wreck when I got it and I have been restoring it from the ground up. I have a manual for the bike but it is not a great one. Where can I find detailed instructions on how to properly adjust the clutch? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You didn't by chance remove the clutch lever on the gearbox.?
It is on a spline and if put back on wrong the leverage ratio will be wrong.
Something to think about.
