I have a 1984 Maico 250. This was the first year for the watercooled Maicos. I need clutch plates for this bike. Anyone have any ideas where i might find these? It probably runs the same plates as the 83 but not sure. Same with pistons. Any idea who still makes pistons for this year? Bill

Are you located in the U.S.? If so,you want to speak to Rick Lago at Motocentre,tel.:1-509-453-2121.
www.motocentre.biz
Axel Koestler at www.maico-bikeworld.de manufactures Maicos and can also supply you with parts for your 84 MC250.

If you have a water cooled 250, it is an 85 or newer. The 84 250's were air-cooled. The 86 250 is the first Maico with a power valve. I had an 86 back in the day.
I believe Wossner makes pistons for the 83 and up Maico's. Contact my brother Rich at Pinsonnault moto-X at 413 547 6500. He may have clutch plates in stock.
The 90's models started using sintered friction plates, and steel drive plates, which is the hot set-up to get if you want a good working clutch, but they are expensive. I have a 93 320 and it came with the sintered plates.
The original friction plates in the 83-90 Maico's are the same as the friction plates in the late 70's early 80's Husqvarna's, 250 390 430, and those are cheap and easy to find on ebay.
Email me if you are having trouble finding new plates, I have lots of great condition used.

Hey Paul, the 84 Maico 250 was liquid cooled.

It turns out the first batch of 84 250s were aircooled.A guy is selling one on Ebay right now.All further shipments of 84 Maico 250s were liquid cooled.

Does anyone know if the water cooled 84 Maicos ever made it with a disc brake?
The importance here is eligibility for vintage racing (pre 85 class).
I've an 85 model, which isn't eligible ( must be made in 84 or earlier), and it has the disc.
I've noticed some water cooled drum brake models which I suppose are late 84, but would love to know if any landed a disc before the end of 84.
