Title: A Marshall's Story
Post by: rm250guy on October 01, 2011, 11:26:56 PM
We just kicked off our 2011-2012 MX season over here in Oman and one of the Dad's got poetic about his first experience as a Marshall (Safety Flagger)  Enjoy! ;D

A Marshall's Story
By Fahim Firfiray, f/o Omar

I??d just had my lunch
and with slight indigestion
Should I be a Marshall?
Was now the main question

??Don??t be foolish, Fahim,
They??ll tear you apart?
That??s what my head
Said to my heart

But in no time at all,
Heart overruled head
I grabbed both flags
One yellow, one red

I advanced like a soldier
without applause or ovation
And found myself
A suitable location

At the top of a hill
At a critical junction
I braced myself for
this noble function

The engines roared
And within less than a minute
There was no turning back
I was now truly in it!

The thundering metal
Stirred up emotion
It was magnificent to watch
Poetry in motion

Warriors riding
With dare and with gusto
Russell, Gabriel,
Ashley and Mustoe!

Athletes, Olympians
Supremely fit
Occasionally falling
Arse over?.er ??. elbow

Hot and parched
But was I fussed?
I had a grandstand view
Er ?. of clouds of dust

So as you celebrate the heroes
All bathed in glory
Please remember this Marshall
And his humble story!

Flaggies are so under appreciated and taken for granted around here. No one ever wants to volunteer and it has always been a big problem, if im not racin ill gladly do it, its the best seat in the house. Nice poem too :-)
