Hi John
The Florida Motocross series starts Tomorrow 2-14-10. Jake's first year on on 125. I'm a little nervous but good news,They have new classes Instead of 125 and 250 class they changed it to 125 two stroke only,250,450 we might be racing in two classes this year. I will let you know how it goes and if the 125 two stroke only class is full or not. I did notice that at our local track they had alot of two strokes practicing the other night, we hadnt been to in a couple months. Good to see!

Sorry it took so long. First it was COLD!! frost on the ground it rained all day Friday, Saturday practice was canceled but the track was in good shape. Jake ran 4 races last year in the 250D class and won two on them. This year he moved up to the 250C class a big move for him he seamed alittle bit intimidated. There were 18 riders first moto start he was mid pack a few went down and he was about 10th then he faded anf finished 16th. Not to happy but showed him a few areas to do things different. Told him to race the track and when a faster guy got by him try to stick with him. So second Moto start was a little worse but rode alot harder this time he didnt lose the pack but was at the rear he finished 15th for 15th overall. The winner was on a KX250 twostroke. Also the 125 twostroke only class only had four riders but hope it becomes more popular Jake said he would be to tired to run two classes( He spent all day Saturday Surfing) but in a coule weeks will do it. Next race will be in Orlando at Bithlo, James Stewart's home track when he was an amateur. Will try to post some pics soon. Bill

Finally Race two this weekend. We will be in Orlando 3-21 will let every one know how it goes wish us good luck.
-
that sounds like the turn outs we get out in NORCAL. There have been a few times when weve had as many as 10-15 but on average i'd say about 5 is what we get. although we dont get the turnouts we used to get 5 yrs ago. i remember getting 40-50+ novices and now were lucky to see 30 in one moto
-
The weather was threating Sunday but we got both motos in before the rain. Unfortunately we beat the rain from a low turn out.We have been racing this series for four years and this was the lowest turn out I've seen. I heard the promoter say there was only 190 riders! If any one from Florida is reading this come on out and race you will have fun and maybe save one of the states best series! Now back to the races I also saw a lot of two strokes more than ever. The people next to us were racing a steel frame YZ250 and was very competitive. In the 250 C class Jakes class out of 11 riders there were 4 or 5 two strokes. We had a combind class 250C class with 11 riders and 250B with 4 riders. I got tied up at work and we didnt practice Saturday so we left Sunday at 5:45 AM and made it there at 8:25 and missed his practice so he went out with the 450's. They redesigned the track from last year Jake liked it but only got 3 laps on it. First Moto start Jake was even into the first turn and he backed off a little and it cost him. He held on to the pack but came in 11th. We went in the bleachers and watched some of the other races and we talked about what he has to do to do better. I told him he can't coast anywhere. I reminded him that in his last D class race that he won he hit all of the jumps and got the hole shot and reminded him if he didnt do this in that race he would have finished 4th or 5th and the C class riders are faster. So second moto much better start went into the first turn about 8th held for a while got passed and then passed back and finished 10th so we got alittle improvement . This has been harder than I thought but were hanging in there. Next race his best friend will be back so lets hope that helps.

Also I only saw a couple new bikes that I was able to tell. Only one new Yamaha 450 ! No new Yamaha 250's.

Update We raced at Thundercross Mx 3rd race in the Fl MX series 4-11-10. They had a good turnout there was 30 riders in Jakes class. He was a little intimidated by the number of riders. Also there was about 25 to 30 two strokes (125-250) at the track .I took as many pics of the bikes I could and posted them on the form. Two years ago there would have only been a couple two strokes. Any way he was about 20th on the start and finished 25th. He kept his speed up so he did better.

This week we were at Dade City Mx #4 in the series. The first moto Jake was about 8th at the start raced really hard did'nt give up and pushed the whole race. Second race we had RAIN did ok we left after the race so I'm not sure where he finshed but alot of guys went down and Jake kept it on two wheels the whole way.

Hello everyone were still here. Well we are in 5th place in the seires and we missed the last race cause Jake jumped in the water off a boat and cut his schin on some oysters and cut deep. But he is healing well. The last two races he was in we have seen good inprovement, his starts are way better and he is finishing towards the middle. One thing noticed alot of 250 two strokes we are looking for one for next year. Here are some pics from the last two races.

Well the season is over Jake went into the last race 5th place in the overall points in the 250C class. There was a good turn out, 24 riders. We went Saturday for all day practice and worked on some stuff it really helped. Also on saturday parked next to us was a couple of former national Pros,Monte McCoy and Steve Martin they raced in the late 1970's and early 1980's. They came over and talked to Jake and were really nice. Anyway Jake rode as good as he has on the 125,he battled two 250 2t got passed and passed them back fought the whole race to finish 11th place overall and that was enough to move him into 4th place overall in the series. It has been a fun year and it ended on a up note. On 9-26-10 he will be racing in the Florida Gold cup at Gatorback MX he has'nt raced at that track yet it should be fun. I raced there in the 70's and 80's one of my favorites. I wish everbody a good year and thanks for following us this year.

Well done. ;D 8)
Maybe you could shout him a beer for a having a great season ?
-
Congrats on a great season, sounds like Jake progressed with his riding though out the season. I was checking out diff. Florida series, the gold cup series has bigger turnouts, and the winter series has the largest turnout of all the series. The vet classes are stacked, with fast riders. I can get a driving job for a larger co.,that has terminals across the country, and have a job before moving to Florida. The large companys don,t pay very well, but no one driving is making much now anyway, and with all the snow birds going to FLorida, the freight volume over the winter is high. So what is a good area to live in, to be close to some tracks that have alot of open practice, I,m thinking east of Ocala. Thanks Luthier 269
-
Ocala is centally located and has three tracks in the area that have regular practice and races, also the croom riding area is fairly close also.
-
Congrats to the young bloke luthier, thanks for keepin us all updated, best of luck to Jake in the future.. ;)
-
Ok thanks Luthier and thanks for posting all the pics and stories. I,m having a hard time dealing with the end of the season here, record rain fall for weeks, the track where I,m a member at didn,t touch the track, until 3 weeks ago then almost 4 inches of rain in 1 hour, on a clay track worked up 16 inches deep for a race, only 1 moto was raced. After the race I asked where,s the keys for the equipment, to hit some bad spots. No one knows where the keys are at, and they don,t care. If I move to FL. the tracks have to be more organized than here. Are you considering another 125, you have the 125 2-st. class, that would be fun, and Jake could race a second class.
-
We are looking for a 250 2t but not till next year. A friend of mine has a 2001 yz250 he is going to let us try. When you move here let me know maybe we can meet up at the track. Good luck
