Title: My final CR500AF
Post by: miedosoracing on February 12, 2010, 01:10:09 PM
Almost finished. Should get the radiator back from the welder today, and then will finish powercoating other parts this weekend to finish it up   ;D
This one is my personal keeper. David Bailey tribute bike.

Having them enlarged or repaired?

Are you going to do the whole tribute route with the
powder coated frame etc.?

On our builds, the radiator on the right needs the bottom exit hole removed, then relocated and larger at the bottom of the radiator.  I am not doing the orange frame, I do not like that. I am doing the wheels gold and the hubs actually have a gold metal flake black. Rear sprocket is a Sidewinder gold and black steel/aluminum one. So it will kind of be a gold black theme besides the plastic.  Even gold pro tapers. ;-) Number plates are blue backgrounds a very big 1 on them. Will post more pics soon.  Just got excited so I had to post where I'm at. LOL

The whole deal on this tribute bike, is to make 3 late model tribute bikes for the fallen, although not exact replicas, more like things I like from each and then my own touch. The CR500AF is a 04 frame, the 125 is 06 and the 250 will be 05 or newer.  CR125 woody graphics, with a 144cc kit will be for Ernesto Fonseca.  CR250 with the 95 Honda 800 collect flames for Doug Henry, and then finally this CR500AF.  I just need to find a 05 or newer CR250 now, and I will have them all. The 125 I am currently working on the motor.  I have matched and ported the crank area, cylinder etc.  I just have to send the cylinder for the big bore.

Sad to hear it's your final build, how come? The world needs more bigbore 2t's.

All efforts are now going to be spent trying to start a new motocross national series. Instead of making them, hoping places like Service Honda and others will have an opportunity to show them off compared to big bore 4 strokes.

I couldn't believe it. I was prepared for a kicking fest, figuring it is a motor that was tore down and a new piston bore job was done, so no way it would start very easy.  First freakin kick. Can't beat that.  Anyways, it is so fast. I about wiped out around my parking lot. I just gave it a little gas, around a sweeping corner, and it was coming out from beneath me. It has so much power. This weekend I will try to get out with my friends 08 CRF450 and compare them.

She's a beauty.  I really like the One Industries DB shroud graphics.  I plan
to use them on my 500AF on the OE red shrouds - a really nice take on
the Honda wing.

I already know what the outcome of that one will be - see ya!

Again, great job!

Thanks.  Although not sure how you will use those graphics?  THey are actually made with orange on them?  Unless there are others without the orange?

They won't be exactly those same graphics.  I plan to use just the
wing and Honda logo portion and have them recreated on 12 mil
clear backgrounds.  I'm looking to recreate a facsimile of the '92 to
'94 factory Honda graphics.  Those bikes sported a white Honda
wing with "Honda" spelled out below on the shrouds.  Here's a
picture.  This is what I plan to run on the '93 CR250 I'm building
minus the "camel" logo which was only used in Supercross.

Because of the shape of the 2010 bikes shrouds, I can't use the same
graphic.  The One DB or standard Honda graphic kit was designed to fit
and will still provide the look I'm after.

Thanks, here's the final done pics. I had to rob a CRF450 Bailey kit for some stickers I got jipped on. I had to make the CRF small airbox stickers work on what I have. Not the best, but better than nothing.
