Hi guys I'm new here and have a question... I am restoring a 89 cr125 for my daughter and am having trouble finding engine parts that are reasonably priced, (ie $350.00 for a used and scored cyl) and decent exhaust pipe, anyhow I am wondering if anyone knows if a 1990 cr 125 engine will bolt right into the frame? I am liking the idea of throwing an engine in with the hpp and exhaust pipe that mounts inside the manifold area instead of on the outside (exhaust leak yuuuk) any info would be great! Thanks!

Im thinkin 89-90 CR 125s were very similar and dont think you will have many problems if any doin the swap.

Between 1989 and 1990 Honda revamped the CR line. Still I would imagine you could make the swap without great difficulty. Might not be a direct swap but shouldn't bee too in-depth.

The biggest thing you'll need to worry about is the inner diameter of the swingarm bolt holes in the rear of the engine. The other thing to be careful of is whether the width of the engine is the same between the 89 and 90 engines. There were changes annually to the rear of the cr125 engine between 87-90 but I think you'll be okay; just need to check. One thing I did which made a big difference in sealing the expansion chamber to the cylinder is I used a expansion chamber joint from a 2001. I put it on a lathe and bore it out the inner diameter enough to make it as concentric as possible. The rubber seal works excellent; I've been running one on my 90 for 5 years and haven't had a leak yet...knock on wood. I'm pretty sure a 1990 expansion chamber will work on the 1989 but can't be 100% sure.
