Who knew an AT1MX engine and Torque pipe would bolt right in a Penton? Here it is in process. btw-I'm new here. For some reason I didn't know there was a forum on the 2 stroke website, I do now :D
You put that Sachs engine back in the Penton right now! :-X

Tharrell - you considering a MX175 top end on that thing (I have a feeling Capt Dave would recommend it)? looks like a fun project!

Got a NOS cylinder, Eric Gorr cylinder and a 175 cylinder to choose from. The 175 would be great for cross country because the class is a 200cc class; Got 3 pipes for it too, the Torque down pipe, a Torque up pipe and an AT1MX pipe. The Torque up pipe needs the header to be cut and repositioned which would be a good pipe for cross country. The Torque down pipe fits perfectly except for the back tab, it will have to be moved. The front and top rear engine mounts line up perfectly, only have to fab the rear lower mount. I've got several 125 projects going on and could use more cylinders 125 and 175, YZ125a and b and MX cylinders if anyone has them. YZ125a pipes too. Of course Noguchi parts are ALWAYS welcome.

Gad zooks! Is that a Yamaha motor in that 77 AW125 chassis? (Is nothing sacred anymore?). :o
I agree adjusting the trans. on the 1001 and 1251 Sachs engines can put you in the funny farm but those engines sure can make power and they are tough.
When you say cross country series, what club and where?

Yup :D That's a YZ125A engine in that Maico, actually it's a stage 3 Noguchi according to Curt. Yeah, the Sachs is a surprisingly powerful engine but all the false neutrals make it a real pita. Cross Country in AHRMA. A flickable old bike with a 175cc engine is just the ticket. The Penton as is, is a wonderful CC bike. That's why there are so many of them, they also have their own owners group that sponsors the AHRMA CC events. This is just one of six 125/175 projects going on right now, but it is one of two that will be very cool. I've got tons of bikes in all disciplines and my favorites are the open MX bikes. But, these little tiddlers are just too much fun. I've got a MX125 on standby at all times to just take off across the street and cut loose when I need a quick ride. That lil sucker fires on the first kick, just a plain hoot to ride. ;D

I've got quite the stash of vintage bikes as well and they run from Carabela Elsinore copies to a Zundapp ISDT. I'm coming off some very bad injuries and am getting close to having my financial house back in order. When that drudgery is done it's back to the shop to have some fun and on the vintage side of things I've been eyeballing a CZ 250 MX basket case and a Hercules 175 enduro (a 1751 series - not be confused with the 1752 seven speed) I have in storage.I'm partial to the Euro stuff and have horse traded away all my vintage Japanese bikes and parts.
I love the big bore Maicos but I'm also watching a 1980ish KTM 390 enduro. ;D

Well, sounds like you have the bug too! I picked up a CZ380 basket last year, got the original engine and a radial with it. Went to Alabama last month and picked up a 1975 Maico MC400, needs a sleeve or new cylinder. Currently restoring a 1985 Honda CR500 for the AHRMA pre modern class. I like playing with the old 4" stuff but I race the linkage stuff, CR480. ;D The bike I want, 1981 Maico 490 is way too expensive so I'll race the Hondas.

Full blown addiction. Just read my signature. Added 2 more over the weekend. Hopefully they'll get shipped this week.
Spent a good part of Sunday prepping my Jackpiner. The organizers of the regional MX next month and the local KTM dealer want me to bring it out and are going to pay my trip.

I've got an 81 Maico 490 basket case and an 81 Wheelsmith 250 in very nice shape.The 83 Maico 490 (got on of those too) is a gnarly bike and I prefer it to the early big bore Hondas.
I know the location of two CZ 380s - maybe one day....
Next year I hope to get to some events.One project I'm tinkering with is a Sachs GS6 250 engine (a model that was never sold in the U.S.) in an 83 Maico 250 rolling chassis.The GS6 is a very powerful engine and the Maico chassis is as good as they get so I have high hopes for this hybrid. ;D
It's an addiction that also has some monetary merit. Recently on Evilbay a 66 Mach 1 250 (Ducati, got one in the basement) sold for an astronomical amount, I remember it was close to $20,000.
