Title: '96 RM125 cylinder interchange?
Post by: TheRadBaron on August 13, 2011, 12:08:00 AM
My RM has a junk cylinder and I'm having a hard time finding a replacement.  The '96 cylinder was a one-year part.  Does anyone know if any other years of RM125 cylinders will work on a '96? The part numbers are different for different years, but the exhaust valves, cylinder heads, base gaskets, and other parts are the same from '96-'98. I know that sometimes a manufacturer will change a part number for an insignificant change that has no effect on the part's interchangeability.  Or maybe the porting was slightly revised and a '97 or '98 cylinder will still work on my '96.  Anyone have any insight?

I had put a 94 on mine a few yrs back ,and also i had put a 92 on my 89 so any yr from 1990 up to it will work (89 had a steel sleeve) if you have the complete set up part numbers will differ with port timing ,color or even vent tubes

That's good info.  Thanks very much.  What year was yours that had the '94 cylinder?  Also a '96?

Cool.  Did you use the '94 exhaust valve setup or the '96?  The valves and other pieces are different part numbers, but I'm hoping that they'll interchange.  The pre-'96 valves are a two piece design, while the '96 valves are one piece.
