I commented on youtube asking how his lap times compare to his 450 while on his 250 two stroke and he said that at this track his 450 was faster by only a few tenths of a second which is pretty good for a 2000 cr250.

This vid's a good example of how fast the four bangers are now.
People on here seem to think a 250 2t will smoke a 250f every time in every way, well that aint true with modern 250f's. they're very fast and powerful and put there power down better than a 2 banger.
I'd still never ride one though, just keeping it real.

It is possible to do but you need every trick in the book.

That is exactly what MXA found in their 2T vs 4T shootout test. The way they get such power out of a 4T is to spin the poor thing twice as fast. Because its a 4T it will also provide linear power up to the silly 13k+ max power rpm so it does end up with a wider spread. Of course even with the 4T piston flinging back an forth at that speed its still down roughly 10 HP from the 2T at their peaks. Lap times for their test riders were very close but the holeshot was all about the 2T unless the rider really blows it. Ok so the bikes have similar lap times. How fast are the 4T lap times when its being wrenched on?  ;-)

that isnt too surprising. if you look back to 05 and 04 ama motocross 250s were still up in the top ten against the 450s. byrne finished around 7th or 6th both years. in 04 hamblin tortelli and wey all finished in the top 10 as well with tortelli even finishing on the podium. neither of the riders really did any better when they got on the precious 450. the only rider who had a noticable benefit from switching was stewart so instead of losing a 12sec lead on RC at the dilla he could then run the same pace which he ironically still lost most of the time.

bottom line is the rider is the one who determines where they finish at. the best rider will always win barring a flyin w

Yeah they are just as fast because they push the four strokes TOO hard and not to mention the fact that they update their four strokes in any way they can while the two strokes get far less updates. Imagine the Maico 250 instead of the YZ250. An actual modern 250 smoker? Would smoke any 250f.
