Title: KTM 105 Adult Minimoto Vids
Post by: Toadmeister00 on July 18, 2011, 10:48:04 PM
A few vids I made from this past weekend from the Sandy Hook kart track in Street, MD with the Maryland Minimoto organization.  This is my first season racing a mini, I'm still on the learning curve but having such a good time with it. The hot-rod 150Rs are the bikes to beat for sure, but I like having one of the only smokers in the field.

That looks AWESOME.

Been looking for a cheap racing sport to get into.. been considering kart racing.  If there is a series like this in my area, I'd seriously consider that. My sportbike leathers have been sitting unused :\

I've seen pics of 'moped' racing in the states -- that looks like a hoot in a funny/quirky sort of way.  This looks a lil more serious!

Questions..

How race ready is the 105 in stock form?  (I'm thinking suspension wise, mainly).

Did you purchase supermoto wheels, or are those stockers?  (I didn't get a good look).

Been dreaming of slipping some street tires on my RM250's stock hoops, gearing it way up, and heading back to the local roadrace track.  The full on road course is a bit too much adrenaline and a bit too dangerous for me these days.  I dont seem myself committing.  Something like this looks safer.

Even with an SX85 or KX125 you can beat a field full of 250F supermoto's.
I'll post that vid later today.   :D :)

As promised;

The SX85 and KX125 take the holeshot and dominate the rest of the 4 Stroke field!  :D

The suspension will be way too soft. I weight 200 lbs., and was able to source heavier springs from Cannon Racecraft.

They are supermoto wheels, 17x2.5 front and 3.5 rear. The rims and spokes are CACR brand from www.radmfg.com (http://www.radmfg.com), they are less money than Excel wheels and are still decent.

This is my first season racing it, so I'm still learning and gaining speed. I am having an absolute blast on it.

Where are you?

There is a "regional" area on www.supermotojunkie.com (http://www.supermotojunkie.com), you should be able to get an idea if what is going on around you.

The mini scene seems to have died down a few years back, now it appears to be picking up steam again. There is a HUGE race coming up August 6th and 7th at BeaveRun in PA. It is the Eastern Mini Championship and several organizations are incorporating their rounds into it.

Looks like fun! ;D

Do you run a cush drive rear hub?

No cush drive, just the stock 85/105 rear hub. These things don't make enough power or torque to need a cush drive!
