Title: YZ250 Help thread lol "Pics"
Post by: factoryX on July 13, 2011, 12:34:49 PM
Well as some of you know I picked up a 03 yz250 and it needs a rear tire. So which one? The terrain I will be riding will vary from hard pack to soft silt, and maybe some track riding. I was looking at great deal on maxxis it's, but after reading on the web for bit everyone hates them for anything other than goat trails.

Millville K771 or Michelin S12XC.

I forgot to mention large sharp rocks in the silt.  ;D

I have run the Millville K771 on Zach's last two bikes. Pa trails are loaded with rocks and they hold up well. I like them because the terrain varies from mud, clay, soft dirt, hard pack, roots, and rocks. Other than the cheapo trials tire I have my my KDX (I like it more), the Millville tires have worked just as well as any other knobby I have used the last few years.

As much as I hate to agree with TMKIWI  :P, another vote for the S12.

Thanks for the replies I ended up with a Michelin Starcross MH3.  ;D
So next thing on my list of $h!t to do is plastics, do I go O.E.M. or some aftermarket brand(Acerbis, Cyrca, polisport, etc.)? After that I'll be almost done with the bike, and I won't be embarrassed to post detailed pics  ;D

The rear fender is actually broken under the seat, and the front looks like it went through a garbage disposal.

How freaking light was the guy you bought it off of that he had the shock set like that?  :D

Looks good man. I know you had a bad experience with your Tusk clutch, but RMATV had good prices on plastic, comparable to what I found on ebay for Zach's RM.

man, it's a 01 cr 125, but it looks so nasty at the moment. the plastics got lots of bending marks and dents. attm is too hot to ride, so gonna start rebuilding the bike and get as new plastic kit. think i'm going for red this time :D

I think UFO does yellow plastics for the 06 YZF. From memory most fit the YZ.Some of the panels have the same Yamaha part No.
I reserched it a couple of years ago.

front fender and rear fender are doable, however shrouds are being a bitch to locate. I might goahead and just go black white with a yellow graphics kit.
This is what I had in mind but minus the aluminum frame(I might add that later  ;D):

All I really have left to do is pop the dent out of pipe, handle bars, powder coat the frame, and plastics. Easy project so far.

Clarke do a stock size Yellow tank for YZ's.
I am sure you could make YZF shrouds fit a YZ.

I dont think you can make the yzf shrouds work with out the yzf tank which wouldn't work in the yz frame. But they do make the yellow plastics for the yz. Check ebay i have seen them on there in yellow for like 20 bucks.

Been watching, so far I've only been able to find 4 stroke plastics. I did score a new Thor Force s9 helmet for $71 shipped, and I am currently watching some forks for dirt cheap for either a spare pair or a fork conversion for the kdx.  ;D
