Title: clutch question `91 CR250
Post by: jammitchell84 on June 13, 2011, 01:01:57 PM
i`m almost done rebuilding a `91 Honda cr250 engine.  I have  the clutch hub mounted in the basket . When the hub is rotated by hand and the basket is held stationary(WITHOUT PLATES installed) i notice a "consistant, but not constant" restriction.  it is assembled per the manual ( bushing, needle bearing, basket, large thrust washer, hub, small thrust washer, lock washer, then the nut tightened to 60ft lb. The whole assembly rotates nice and smooth but has grag when rotated seperatly... is this "drag/ resistance" normal?

This drag is not normal.Did you split the centre cases?

Loosen the nut that retains the clutch assy. and see if the clutch hub loosens up.If it does, carefully recheck your placement of the thrust washers.I just did a Maico 500 and had the same problem - I had the thrust washers mixed up. ;D

+2 on the thrust washers.  It only take one out of place to loose the engagement!
