Title: Jeff Gibson
Post by: keeptwostrokesalive on June 08, 2011, 11:55:37 AM
There was a thread over at vitalmx saying that jeff gibson is going to race a 250sx at high point.  Does anyone know if this is true.

Sweet! He should get that thing at least in top 40 for sure.

Andrew, the only way he'll get any real coverage is if someone from here does it. Someone could go up to him at High Point take a few photos and ask a few questions. Using that info create a little article that Charles can publish.

This is the only way to really cover two-strokes at the Pro Races. Sure the mainstream media may publish a little blurb, but to get it done now, we have to all work together to make it happen.

There are a few folks on here from Western Pennsylvania, any of you willing to do that?

If so, Charles may be able to get you a media pass to get into the pits. Well if you ask him really nicely!  8) 8)

I would gladly do that John, unfortunately I am going to miss High Point this year for the first time in more years than I can remember. I just don't have the money right now, the races are getting very expensive. My nephew Zach is bummed too as I always take him.

But that is a great idea about the interview/pictures.

I hope he does well.
But on TV broadcasts they will only mention 2 things about 2 strokes;
-the old 2 strokes
or;
-The little 2 strokes

John Nicholas is correct,
he hit the nail on the head.
If we want 2 stroke coverage, some passionate underdogs have to go do this,
because the mainstream media are only allowed to praise these ''big and powerfull'' 4 $trokes...  :-\

I would be honored to do an interview with Jeff Gibson there. It's kinda long way to come all the way to make it from Finland, tho'...

Too late, Charles tried, I was going to go for TSM. They said we need to let them know at least two week sin advance in the future...

Showing three riders on 250 2-strokes signed up for the 450 class this weekend. Have #922 Tanner Young on a YZ250, #414 Brian Shuckhart on a YZ250, and #88 Jeff Gibson on a 250SX. Good luck, guys!

Oh, and I'll be at Red Bud if anyone has any ideas for possible two stroke coverage. I'm game!

I will be at High Point with a High Def Cam and would gladly get video and pics.

If I can do this for you, I would have to know quite soon, as I'm preparing to leave to Hanover to stay overnight on the way to the race tomorrow.

I would also like to know what you would like to to ask the racers, if anythign in particular?

If not I would just spin up some good'ol 2 strokey stuff for the occasion?

If I leave before I can be reached by Email, please reach me by calling cell phone (908) 672-8856. It's my bud Bruce's #. I don't carry a cell. The cell phone would be the best way to forward the press pass info to me if you want me to get a little coverage.

Thanks,

Jim

Im pretty sure i saw Newcome as high as 23rd, but why does no one attempt to qualify on a 125 i cant help but think itd be easier to overcome a 125cc deficit compared to 200

A 250f has twice the CC of a 125. A 450 has under twice the CC of a 250. Just because there is less of a difference 250 to 125, it is not easier.

Anybody know how they came out?

Agreed. The touque those little 250f time bombs are putting out would be harder for a small bore 2 stroke to match in the pro class were everyone is almost perfect. The big bikes are just fast 2 and 4.

Neither rider cracked the top 30 overall, but they still did awesome, especially second moto!

With the AMA pro gas rules a 125 would be totally gutless compared to heavily modified 250Fs.  Back in the day with 2-strokes people ran high octane leaded fuel, which is now outlawed.  A 125 suffers a much bigger disadvantage from that than a 250.  That's not to say it can't be done.  One fast lap is all it takes to make the gate, which in the unseeded B practice would be easiest to get.  But off the start it would be terrible, and passing 250Fs on momentum alone is a brutal chore.

I'm pleased with how they did, especially moto 2. It may not sound too great, but it's a step in the right direction. Those 250 smokers did beat 15+/- 450's :)

I would like to thank John Nicholas for all his efforts with this web site and Project 250. He made it possible for people to belive they could compete on a Two Stroke. Beliving you can do it is 90% of the battle. I know even at a local level the pressure to ride a Four Stroke is immense people make fun of you for riding a Two Stroke untill you beat them. The doubt is starting to melt away and I think it started with John and all of the members of this web site.

In all honesty, nowadays more people get made fun of for riding four strokes. Go read some comments on youtube, or comments to facebook photos. AE transworld mx posted a pic of the 2012 KTM two strokes, it got tons and tons of pro two stroke and only about 2-3 pro four stroke. The fastest guys in my town ride two strokes. We've got a couple pros here and I know they rode two strokes as long as they could. But now they are on teams and have to ride 450's

People want to ride what wins.. I know when I'm at the track every weekend. People are going back to two's.
I personally know several people that have followed Jeremys path to the smoker. :)

+ don't forget the 40 or more 450F's that did not even qualify. So I agree, they did really good, considering they are on bikes that lack in HP because of the unfair disadvantages given to 4 strokes.  Let us have 300cc 2 strokes, and let's see how things will change fast.

I agree with the fact that more and more riders are going to Two-Strokes.It depends on where you ride, the local track runs AMA pro rules yuck and less Two-Strokes. And the Fl Mx seires runs AMA amateuer rules and a lot more Two Strokes.

You need to get with some people to petition that track and the track promoter to change over due to costs and the economy.  Tell them that AMA is and most states have switched to that. It happened here in Texas.  That was huge in my opinion.  Let them know more people need to be able to afford to race, thus more people at their tracks on race day.
