Title: 2012 KX250F with a second fuel injector?
Post by: dk on June 04, 2011, 08:55:48 PM
Has anyone read this article on MXA yet?  I was curious who has heard of this type of thing before because they say its the first on a "production bike"?  Its hard for me to picture how this would work.

I do like to read about new tech. updates but an "up stream" fuel injector?

"For 2012, Kawasaki engineers sought to create a KX250F with even more impressive top-end performance, which they accomplished by equipping its Digital Fuel Injection (DFI®) system with a second fuel injector ??a first for use on production motocross bikes?? located near the airbox intake. The all-new ??upstream? injector helps build a wider and more potent spread of power as rpm climbs. The two fine-mist atomizing injectors that feed the 250cc four-stroke powerplant are distinct in appearance with different body sizes, but deliver the same per-cycle capacity. Together, Kawasaki??s dual injectors pack a one-two punch, delivering a second dose of fuel on acceleration to increase the high-rpm power and overrev capabilities of the KX250F. -MXA MAG"

OK, is that a "First Look" by MC mag people or a Kawasaki Ad?

Good point!  I saw this on the MXA web and its not a real MXA first look.  Just a kawi write-up/ad.

I feel like this is a marketing thing because I am not sure the average rider is going to walk away and be amazed by the over-rev from the second injector.

I posted this on the site because at first look it seems to be an absurd way to kick up sales.  I know if i was 16 again I would gobling this up but it seems a bit extreme.

Yes, it's most probably just a Kawasaki press-release write up. . .

the yamaha r7 was sold with 2 banks of injectors, but with only one set being activated for 107 hp. the bike would then give 140 hp when the teams activated the second bank of injectors.

It has been used on teh factory bikes ever since FI came out. The 2012's do in fact have it. help with keeping teh fuel delivery even and fast all the way through the RPM's....... truly makes a huge difference

Sounds like this all new, even more complicated supercombobulator has been specially contstructed to only partially succeed in mimicking the performance of a normal carburetor....

It takes a special type of genius to take something efficient and simple and make it complicated and stupid.
