Title: cr85
Post by: turbo810 on May 18, 2011, 06:16:22 AM
My son has an '03 Cr85 and being new to 2 strokes, I was wondering why exaust is leaking a black oil?  Is this an indication the rings need to be changed?

thanks in advance

Your son's CR85 is a 2T and that black drool is just a sign of the pre mix doing it's job.If you want less "black oil" different 2T lubricants and leaner mixtures will accomplish this but personally,it's hard to hurt a 2T with "too much" lubrication. ;D

The black oil coming out of the exhaust (commonly called "spooge") is a common issue with two strokes, but it is best to address the problem and not just try and mess with the pre-mix. Jetting is the most likely cause, followed by saturated silencer packing, worn rings, bad clutch side crank seal, or even a really filthy air filter can mimic rich jetting. However, I would bet on jetting being the most likely cause.

Two strokes, especially small ones, need plenty of top end lubrication. Adding less oil is never a good thing  :) .

Tks!!  guys..  I've never heard of "spooge"  but it sounds appropriate for a 2t ;D....  I will look into the mentioned options.
