Hello there! i bought my 06 yamaha yz 250 this winter. and lately ive getting suspicious that its a 05 and not 06. my frame number is jyacg20c000008218 ppl say its the 10th digit on the vin number. and that if the 10th number is 6. its year 06. but mine has a 0.
Anyone knows how the vin number or frame number works? my bike has a aluminium frame so i know its 05+

Yeah, seems like there are too many zeros in there. Still has 17 digits though so I'm not sure.

It would help if you would fill in your location. If you aren't in the US, you're only hope is to call a dealer. Most of the VIN decoders only work for US VIN numbers. If you are in the US, something looks funky with that number. Like ACMX said, a pic will be helpful.

maybe a replacement frame??? & the dealer mechanic messed up when he punched the number

aha that explains alot. im from norway. i called a dealer today and to my disapointment my suspicion was right. it is a year 05 model :(
But its not end of the world.. i got a good deal anyway :P but it is quite annoying
Started to get suspicious when the 06 front plate didnt fit right.. but. tnx for the help anyways!

Bummer. I didn't realize there were changes between those years :( .

i had exactly the same issue with my wifes rm 125. had a 0 where the year number was ment to be. the only way i figured out what year it was was read a heap of bike tests and work out what parts were changed in what year and which changes matched hers. suzuki australia had no record of that frame or the engine number
