Aussie dollars. $1=$1
Same price as a SX150.
RM 125 $8190 for comparison

we get absolutely hammered on prices in oz. the government tax us like mad. i can import a new ktm 250 sx for about 2 grand less from the states than i can buy one from a shop.

It looks fully loaded, holeshot device, 260 or 270 front rotor, the price is nice comparatively, to buy a YZ get the 144 kit, holeshot device, polish the hubs, and make it a Husky(hehe) would run you up to almost 10gs

You bring in a bike from OS, you pay the same tax as a bike that you buy from a shop. But even with that and freight, you still save a hell of a lot of money. There's a fair few new 2011XC 2ts being brought in by people, on their own. ;D

We are getting reamed by the distributors now, pure and simple. The only excuse is if the distributors paid for their stock when the dollar was low - or they are stuck with a contract with the manufacturer that fixed the exchange rate /purchase price , a common thing to keep price stability through a model year. Sometimes that can help keep the bike price in check if the dollar looses value, but it works the other way as well.

But the rest of the world seems to subsidize the US KTM prices. I for one will not buy a KTM or Berg until that ends.  But a big part of the price difference is definitely KTM Australia's mark up.

Yeah ,ktm is ripping us off for sure..I was gonna buy 2 new 2011 ktm's..a 150 and a 250,went for superceeded 09 yamaha's instead.
How can it be that a 250 sx retails for $6700 USD and here in Aus it's over $11,000? Also a 300 cc sxs big bore kit for that bike is $850 in the US and bloody well $2,250 here :o :o.
If someone started up a buisnees importing bikes from the US on an order what u like basis..they'd do well ,for about 5 minutes until the local distributors ran screaing to the government..
I feel that we are subsidising the US market too,it's nearly as bad with the Japanese stuff too...
I buy absolutely everything online from the us now..stuff the thieving bastards!

we only pay gst when we import something in. i thought the shops pay that when they sell the bike plus import tax when they bring the bike in. kind of like two taxes. my brother was looking at a ktm 350, i cant talk him into a real bike, and he can have one landed here for around 9k instead of nearly 13k from a dealer

Guys, I've bought a few bikes from the U.S now and the savings are massive!
I generally stick to Classics however at the moment I'm very tempted to buy something new.
The following is a very enticing example.

New 2011 husaberg fx450, aus price approx $13,500.

You can currently get brand new fx450's from the U.S for $5800, which after shipping, get and other duties is between $7500 and $8000.

A saving of close to $6000!

I know a guy who has now made a full time business out of shipping bikes, boats and anything else from the U.S, he charges $1000 per bike which covers everything but gst (which is 10% of combined bike and freight cost).
He can organise everything, I've got him picking up another bike for me next week.

The joys of business practices and gov't.
BRP is a Canadian company who makes their snowmobiles here and yet, with our dollar floating slightly above the US dollar,it's much cheaper to go to the US and buy one that has been freighted down there.
