Title: First Video
Post by: TMKIWI on March 13, 2011, 06:06:39 PM
Finally got a Camera. Here is my first video.
This was a trial run with the camera and noticed I had it facing down a bit much. But not so bad. Will adjust it for next time.
This was a trail ride I did on Saturday.

More to come when I work out the editing software & how to upload the files quicker.

Awesome video, looks fun!

Windows Movie Maker is the easiest editing program to work with. To add color changes and better effects, I use Sony Vegas 10.

Windows movie maker doesn't work with .MOV files.
I am using Nero at the moment.
I need to find a teenager to teach me. :D

A solution to that would be to download a video converter and convert them to WMV

Here's what I use.

What format do you upload with. I uploaded these with .avi but the vid is no where as clear.

Avi .. I think thats the un-compact version right? Its probably a huge file. (but it saves to your hard drive ultra fast) ... But it takes forever to upload. Save it in WMV11, thats compact, usually keeps quality 100% and uploads normal speed. Also, my computer is a bit slow so to make sure it saves and plays smoothly, i save it in 3mbps.

My camera records .MOV files which my editing software (Vegas 8) doesn't recognize for some reason.  But then I just literally erase the .MOV extension and type in .MP4 and it works.  I don't know how or why it works, but it does.  And for some reason the audio gets synced poorly with the video, so I have to go in and fix that for all my videos.  When I'm done editing in Vegas, I render the video in the same resolution it came in (1280x720 in my case) and .WMV format.  Quality is pretty good, and in fact with video in SD Mode on the camera (which is 848x480 and 60fps) the .WMV file is so much smaller that my computer can keep up with it and actually play it at the proper 60fps, where with the raw video file it can't quite keep up.  Uploading to YouTube, unfortunately, reverts it back down to 30fps.

The final result, of course, looks like this (be sure to bump the setting to 720p to see the full detail)

...Seriously that works? Now I'm frustrated I wasted all that time.

I use Corel VideoStudio, just recently got the latest version (Pro X4).

Maicowerk.com Intro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_q9GrZXJSFM#ws)

Supports everything pretty much, the new one even does some hokey 3D, but does bluray and everything, lots of stuff I never use.  I just use a default MPEG encoding and upload that, and encode at high quality.   The UI to me is easy to use in that editor and it does speed ups, has many track options and stuff.  Reverse video (which was an important feature few if any other s/w had 3 years ago).

Mostly, all these pay software are pretty equal these days and I've found that anything I have wanted to do more than what VS can do is usually things that are beyond all video editing software and fall into the realm of things like CS AfterEffects.

Sure, blame it on the ear infection..

Erasing the extension and typing in a new one only works in some specific situations.  My camera just happens to generate video files that work that way.  But if you tried to type in .WMV or something like that, the file would be unreadable until you changed it back.
