I found this on TT:
Thanks guys. Ernie compairing the 2011 TM 250MX to the 2010 GG 300 is gonna be hard. Really other than them both being 2-strokes, both very well built bikes that have two wheels, thats about it and far as the things they have in common.
The TM is right much lighter and I would guess 15 lbs or so but don't quote me. The bike balance feels almost dead center on the TM and a little more rear weight feeling on the GG. The TM is way taller with more ground clearance not a plus for me at 5' 7" LOL. The TM is very slim everywhere, in the seat, tank, shrouds, leg and foot areas.
Riding them back to back today the TM feels like a pure race breed bike made from one solid piece of material. Now we have about 30 hours on the GG and about 3 on the TM so compairing suspension feel isn't fair at this time but the TM is stiffer but not harsh and extreamly soild feeling with both ends using smooth strokes. The GG needs some work on the front. Over the same ground it gives a sharp hit followed by a slighty stiff section then the action smooths out.
The clutch on the TM is solid feeling and a little stiff pulling in at this point. The GG has the easiest clutch to pull in that I have every felt by far in my 40+ years of riding and that includes all the street bikes. Both trannys shift very smoothly with the TM a 5 speed and the GG a 6.
The power delivery is also way different. The TM is a true RACE bike with lots of quick spooling power, no waiting just hang on, and sit up on the tank to keep the front end down. The GG has more low end tq (it's a 300) and the power is smoother and a little slower getting through each gear. I love that each bike hits without a "hit". They just rip from the bottom to the top with one (TM) quicker than the other and one (GG) much smoother.
On the quality compairson the TM has more bling for sure with many parts looking like aftermarket specialty parts. The 2010 GG up intil the TM was the best looking built bike I have ever owned and both bikes IMHO extreamly well built with quality parts.
Look I could go on and on but I don't want to bore you guys so to sum it up...the TM is a true RACE bike ready to rock from the box and the GG is a race bike that may need a little tighting up when compaired to a TM MX bike as should be expected. My problem is I'm 52 and the TM is a LOT more bike than I 'm a rider. The GG is like riding a bike that can do it all but a much softer pace. Think of it as Indy car VS Porshe 996.

Nice. :)

That sums up everything I have read about the 2 bikes.
1 is a race bike, the other needs a little work to do the same.
But as he says 1 is a MX bike, 1 an enduro.
-
If I had to choose between the bikes in an offroad situation I would choose either a 144 TM or a GG250. ;D
-
A bike made from one solid piece of material, thats the perfect description for how they feel.
-
Didn't TM make a 200cc XC model a few years ago?
I would like that aluminum frame around a 200 with woods valving, 18" rear wheel, lighting coil, 3 gal tank, hand guards, steering dampner, and a kickstand.
Thank you :)

Any pics of the GG? Has anyone ridden either of these?

I've ridden lots of TMs and GGs and they are both high quality, well built motorcycles. For guys raised on Japanese bikes it is understandable that you might be leery of these relatively unknown makes but fear not,in no time you'll be wondering why you didn't buy one a lot sooner.Case in point:a riding partner (he used to ride ONLY Hondas) bought a GG300 at the suggestion of another friend and now you couldn't pry him off the bike with a 10 ft two by four,he loves the Gasser.
The TM has a lot stronger "personality" then the GG,the Gasser is easier to ride while the TM will probably take more time to adapt to it's unique traits. ;D

In my area TM is booming! :)
There's 4 TM dealers withing a 100km. for my town.
They have lot's of testing days here.
From what i've heard, especially the the TM 300 2011 is really fantastic!
All 2strokes from TM and GG are.
Plus point of the Gassers is the 6 speed gearbox. As enduro's, the GG has
just a slightly better overall package. After some attention, it can run with the best.
The TM's are a box-ready racer, woods or mx.
No more extra parts needed, just set it up to your pfreference. Same for GaGas.
The big points for me are; the TM has easier suspension to dial in, and the GG has a 6 speed gearbox.

Gasgas makes an awesome woods bike. They tend to be a shade heavier due to the fact,I think, that they're overbuilt in some areas-always a good thing imo.As for the TM,I'd like to say it's a pretty bike but that would go to TMKIWIS head :D
I will say the left fork sticker is on upside down.Damn eyeties. :P

Here's one of the Gas Gas:
250cc
(http://i1023.photobucket.com/albums/af358/burn1986/GasGas.jpg)
300cc
(http://i1023.photobucket.com/albums/af358/burn1986/GasGas300.jpg)
Now all they need is a 150 to match the KTM, Husky, and TM.
-
The Gas Gas 250 SIX Day is what the comparision with the TM should be. The Gas Gas 250 has a 6 speed with a balance shaft the engine is tiny, a fellow in Germany mixed and matched cranks and cylinders has a bolt up 250 Single Shifterkart engine bang on 67HP rev to 10,500 all day.

Both are sweet bikes. I haven't had the good fortune to even see one in person let alone ride one. I'll just add that to my bucket list I guess. Without scouring the internet one question I have is why haven't these companies made a stronger push in the US market? Well I don't hear or see alot about them in SoCal anyway or maybe I need to climb out from under my rock every once in awhile. With more availability and localized support I would definietly put these machines on my short list of the next new bike I'd purchase.
-
In the group of guys I know/ride with there are 3 TMs and 5 GGs and most of them are 300s.Come to think of it,I am restoring a badly abused 02 TM 250 MX as we speak and hopefully I'll have it ready in the next month or 2. ;D
-
one question I have is why haven't these companies made a stronger push in the US market?
Because these companies have very little budget, in comparison to the Big 5.
So they can't afford to run a same mass-marketing campaigning program.
But despite the lower budget and production numbers, you know for sure that every bike from them,
is made with pure passion. :)

There are lots of Gasser's over here. I see more and more every ride.
TM's , well mine is the only one I have seen.
Did not stop me buying it. ;D

i've seen couple other steel frame models down this way but mines the only alloy frame that i know of. when i bought mine it was the only 300 mx that had been imported to NZ

I got to ride the new Gas Gas 250 Enduro back in November, in Maplesville, Alabama, It was awesome!! However the bar bend is too straight for my tastes, I would replace it with a cut down CR-Hi immediately . I also tested it in jeans w/out my knee braces and noticed the radiator shrouds have a ridge on them that was very uncomfortable to my bare knees, I doubt this would be any sort of an issue with braces, but it should be noted for those who don't wear them.
